Introduction

General Jing Yuan's retainer. A gifted swordsman who hasn't even come of age.
No one can best Yanqing when he holds a sword in hand.

Appearance

Yanqing is a teenage boy with medium length blond hair styled into a ponytail with curtain bangs. He has yellow-amber eyes, and a single black stud earring on his left ear. Cloud and swallow motifs, as well as heavy asymmetry, appear often throughout his outfit.

Yanqing wears a blue and black hanfu robe with gold and pink accents, with its flared sleeves reaching just above the elbow. A turquoise bamboo flute is affixed to his belt, alongside a small pink pouch. A series of red ribbons tie a swallow charm onto his left arm, just below the pale blue swath of fabric that hangs over his left shoulder, attached by a lock charm. The tails of the hanfu display pink and white cloud patterns.

Under the outer layer, he wears a tangzhuang-like white shirt and cropped pants, with black armor and a blue belt with a swallow pin both tied around the waist. Both of his arms sport black fingerless bracers, with the left one having the addition of a bell set around the wrist. On his right ankle, above his white boots, there is a red cord anklet.

Character Stories

Character Details

The spirited lieutenant of the Xianzhou Luofu, and also its most proficient swordsman.
He was born for the sword and is obsessed with it. Whenever a sword rests in Yanqing's hand, none would dare underestimate this genius still in the early days of his youth.
Perhaps the only thing capable of dulling his treasured blade's sharp edge is time.

Character Story: Part I

• Unlocked at Character Level 20

Youngest lieutenant in the history of the Cloud Knights. Retainer to General Jing Yuan. Collector of antique swords from the Artisanship Commission... With all these auspicious titles and street gossip swirling around this one wunderkind, it's scarcely believable that he is still a child.

Ever since he could remember, Yanqing would follow Jing Yuan around like a shadow, helping the Seat of Divine Foresight resolve problems. And Jing Yuan in return taught him the art of swordplay — and the art of war. After years of training, Yanqing's mind is as quick and sharp as the spotless sword he keeps.

Cloud Knight combat drills attest that controlling six simultaneous flying daggers is something even Cloud Knight chief drillmasters can't master in a century. The phrase agreed among the Xianzhou people to describe the combat talents of Yanqing is "A gifted swordsman born to fight."

Character Story: Part II

• Unlocked at Character Level 40

It's recorded in the military annals of the Cloud Knights how Jing Yuan came to discover the young boy, stood his ground against public opinion, and incorporated him into the armed forces. However, in the family lineage column, Yanqing's lineage was relegated to the category of unknown.

Most talented officers display military talent from childhood. For millennia, several talented unicorns have emerged ahead of the pack during the hunt. However, Yanqing earned a military commission before he even reached the age of majority. Some would criticize that "the general is absurd" on this matter.

However, this genius' debut on the battlefield was even more explosive, and any critical voices soon fell silent.

When hunting near a distant star, the monstrously huge mechabeast Windguard created by the Denizens of Abundance was pulverizing defense forces as though they were ants. But this young boy met against it face-to-face, claiming its head and routing the enemy to the point of collapse.

As for subsequent victories: He broke the borisin's Devouring Wolf formation with Jing Yuan, beheading three Brood Lords. He also fought viciously against the wingweavers, ultimately sinking their almighty Cloudseizer Fleet... These are just a small footnote in the annals of his courageous swordplay.

Character Story: Part III

• Unlocked at Character Level 60

If you ask Yanqing what other interests he has besides sword fighting, you'll be met with a simple answer —

"Interests are temporary, my sword is forever!"

Like a child infatuated with toys, he spares no expense in buying most of the blades manufactured by the Artisanship Commission — flying swords controlled by qi, daggers for close combat, flexible swords that can bend and adjust... He knows different sword's spec and function like the back of his mind. He'll even buy an extra copy — one to use in combat, and one for his collection. This leaves his finances in a sorrowful situation at the end of each month, where he could only beg the general for food and daily necessities.

It's completely natural for teenage boys to love swords, but a specific dream flickers and dances among the Xianzhou swords in his collection.

To become the best on the Luofu — no, the best across all the Xianzhou ships. To take the title of Sword Champion on the Luofu, and even take the title of Sword Preeminence across the Alliance.

Since the Sedition of Imbibitor Lunae, the title of Sword Champion among the Luofu Cloud Knights has remained vacant for centuries. Not that nobody wants to claim it, but for a rather more embarrassing reason:

The previous Sword Champion, a legendary swordmaster with 13 outstanding accolades, violated the laws of heaven, resulting in her name being wiped from the face of the cosmos. Even the prestigious title that she bore became a sore spot for others.

But for this vastly impressive teen, it's now time to turn over a new page in the annals of history and write another chapter.

Character Story: Part IV

• Unlocked at Character Level 80

"Bout #123: Yanqing, Jing Yuan."
"General, let's call it a day! I'm exhausted..."
"Didn't you say you have the confidence to remain undefeated as long as you hold a sword? Why are you acting so weak?"
"What kind of retainer would take up arms against the person they vowed to protect? What if I accidentally hurt..."
"If your sword is half as quick as your mouth, I'd already have lost. I'll keep one hand behind my back. Now, be quick!"
"No no, two hands please! Or maybe you can consider not using the Lightning-Lord, general?"
"You think is like the Sky-Faring Commission's business, where you can barter your way out? Hmm, let me see..."
"Aha — a weakness! Watch this!"
"I knew you'd do that. Counter!"
"Ow-ow-ow, darn it! I'd been waiting for ages for my shot."
"All's equal in war, and sneak attacks are a good idea. It's too bad your sword is so focused on the flourish and can't conceal its form. Is this what they call youthful vigor?"
"General, let's go again! This time I'll try to be as inconspicuous as possible..."

Jing Yuan spent much time and energy in raising Yanqing. Some speculated that he was cultivating an heir, others claimed he only kept him around just to use this kid as a secret weapon. Jing Yuan never offered a response.

Yanqing became an unrivaled fighter aboard the Xianzhou Luofu as his skills grew more and more advanced. Jing Yuan gradually began thinking about ways to restrain Yanqing's edge, to take him down a peg without curbing his confidence.

Too solid and it can shatter. Too sharp and it can blunt. More than just a sharp edge — a sword also needs a scabbard that can restrain it. In Jing Yuan's view, Yanqing has grown up exceedingly fast — beyond expectations. What Yanqing needs right now is not more strength, but the ability and experience of curbing that strength — something that can only manifest by the passage of time.

Character Voice-Overs

CharacterVoice-Overs
  • About Yanqing That young swordmaster has a keen eye and a swift hand, but I have no desire to compete with anyone in a sword fight.
  • About Yanqing What an amazing kid! Way more gifted than I was. If I were to mentor him, I'd surely turn him into a legendary warrior general! Unfortunately, his master doesn't follow this path... but I suppose having both wisdom and bravery is even more commendable.
  • Added to Team With Yanqing I see that you have remarkable potential. How about trying a round of hand-to-hand combat?
  • About Yanqing Whenever I get into a heated discussion with Jing Yuan and allow my tone to betray me, Yanqing starts glaring at me. Still, I don't need the omniscia to know that the odds of that child making a move against me are minimal...
  • Added to Team With Yanqing Your martial prowess exceeds that of the general, while I surpass him in strategy. How about we join forces?
  • About Yanqing I remember... I once gave him some rare toys. He was a very polite child, and when he came across a sword he liked, he became absolutely radiant with delight.
  • About Yanqing I've never spoken to the general, but I did meet his retainer once. He asked me if I was a "woman of the sword," so you know what I did? I did a sword-swallowing performance right in front of him!
  • Added to Team With Yanqing Hey little guy, wanna see some sword swallowing? I've added some new tricks to my act!
  • About Yanqing I didn't expect to see someone his age still using a sword as a toy... From generation to generation, it seems some things never change.
  • Added to Team With Yanqing Safety first, Yanqing. If anything happens to you, I'll never be able to face General Jing Yuan...
  • About Yanqing If you treat him as a child, he'll put on the airs of an adult. If you treat him as an adult, he'll show the temperament of a child.
  • About Yunli I recall that she is the adopted granddaughter of General Huaiyan. She has excellent swordsmanship and is about the same age as Yanging — it would be ideal if the two could get along well and learn from each other.
  • Added to Team With Yanqing Remember, Yanqing — think before you act.
  • About Yanqing The smell of this Luofu swordmaster is as pure as his character — I only detect the scent of rain. Hmm, does this mean that his will is pure, or that he is too naive?
  • About Yanqing Oh, you mean the young boy? The one who's always by the general? I don't know anything about him...
  • Sharing: Sword Training I'm a huge fan of the Xianzhou's immersia — I've always felt like a hero at heart. When I really started learning the art of the sword, I realized that the heroes in the immersia are nothing compared to my two little masters who taught me every sword technique I know!
  • About Yanqing Master Yanqing has very rigorous teaching style. He's always saying "that's what the general taught me back in the day," ...Looks like everything General Jing Yuan taught him he knows by heart.
  • Added to Team With Yanqing Don't worry, Master Yanqing. I won't let you down!
  • About Yanqing I once gifted him some items I deemed rare, and that child respectfully thanked me and accepted them. Then I saw him excitedly selecting swords in the Artisanship Commission... Hehe, children are clever little creatures.
  • About Yanqing A sword will vibrate and beg to be unsheathed if it is unused for too long... Once unsheathed, it will either paint the battlefield in blood, or break itself in the process...
  • Added to Team With Yanqing Yanqing, your swordsmanship needs no guidance from me. But I encourage you to learn from your friends.
  • About Yanqing He has so many great swords that he never uses. Sometimes, I can hear those swords crying... Is this what people mean when they say "spoiled for choice?"
  • About March 7th March is my first apprentice. She's talented and willing to put in the work — I'm quite pleased with her. If I could just hear her say that my teaching is better than Yanqing's, I would be over the moon.
  • Added to Team With Yanqing Yanqing, how about a rematch? Best of three— No... one round!
