The Third Abundance War was a military conflict between the Xianzhou Alliance and the Denizens of Abundance in the year 8072 Star Calendar. The third of the Denizens of Abundance Wars, it ended in Xianzhou victory at great cost to both sides.

War[]

In Year 8072 Star Calendar, the Yaoqing and the Fanghu sent warning signals about the assembly of a Denizens of Abundance army, the revival of the roaming star Ketu Mirage, and an attack on the Fanghu. The Luofu dispatched four brigades of Cloud Knights to help them fight: the Rainbow Orbit Fleet, Thunderclap Orbit Fleet, Caladrius Orbit Fleet, and Comet Orbit Fleet. Diviner Fu Xuan's divinations predicted that the Xianzhou would lose if they went against the enemy forces head on but would have a chance to turn the tide if they fought defensively. The Arbiter-Generals chose not to heed her advice due to the overwhelming numbers of the Abundance forces.[1]

During the battle, the Abundance forces, composed primarily of Borisin, pushed back the Xianzhou and successfully landed large amounts of troops on the Fanghu, leading to extensive ground fighting. Jiaoqiu[citation needed] and Yufei[2] were both working at Xianzhou field hospitals nearby. Yewliho, a Borisin sheltered by the Alliance and widow of the former Bloodwing Pack Brood Lord Hosing Khan, fought on the side of the Xianzhou during the battle, alongside her fleet, known as the Preta, comprised of Borisin warriors loyal to her. They assisted Xianzhou forces in fighting off Borisin attacks and evacuating civilians.[3] As the Xianzhou were nearing defeat, Fu Xuan proposed the plan of sending an SOS signal to the last observed location of Lan's Lux Arrow using the Yuque's Cloudpeer Telescope. The Yuque's Master Diviner, Jingtian, took the Cloudpeer Telescope to the frontlines on the Fanghu to perform the signaling.[1] Lan's Lux Arrow cut through Abundance fleet, turning the tide of battle, but also destroying one fifth of the Fanghu's delves in the process.[4]

Aftermath[]

Dan Shu's friend Yufei was enlisted in the war. She was killed in the bombardment by Lan while stationed in a field hospital. Dan Shu's desire for revenge against Lan drove her to establish the second iteration of the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus.[2]

The previous Arbiter-General of the Xianzhou Yaoqing, Yueyu, died in the bombardment by Lan.[5]

Yewliho and her Preta were wiped out by Lan's bombardment.[3]

During the course of this battle, the Xianzhou Luofu lost over 63,000 fighter jets and over 120,000 pilots. Among the casualties are Yukong's friends: Caiyi and her husband, Guangyuan.[4][6]

The Fanghu stopped issuing travel passes for a time due to the destruction inflicted during the war. The Third Abundance War Reignbow's Road Museum was created to remember those who died in the war. It is located in the East Sea Delve, one of the delves destroyed in Lan's bombardment, and the only delve to be "reduced to ruins."[7]

The Third Abundance War was the most recent large-scale war between the Xianzhou and the Denizens of Abundance. While the Yaoqing has continued to launch attacks into Abundance space, the overall situation has tilted in the Xianzhou's favour since the war, with the Denizens scattered and weakened, and many Xianzhou ships engaging in increasing trade and diplomacy with the outside universe.[citation needed]
