The Xianzhou Daiyu (Chinese: 岱舆) was one of the nine Flagships owned by the fleet that would become the Xianzhou Alliance.
History[]
During the Lone Voyage Era when the Xianzhou fleet wandered the universe, the populations of the Xianzhou Daiyu and Yuanqiao declined drastically due to the corrosion of viscorpuses, a Denizens of Abundance race.[1]
In Year 1200 Star Calendar, the Daiyu was irreparably damaged and breaking apart from the campaign against the viscorpus.[2] Qingzhu, leader of the Daiyu, made the courageous decision to sacrifice herself and the entire ship to end the curse of the immortality plague.[3][Note 1] The Daiyu crashed into Thalassa[4] and exploded.[2]
Legacy[]
When the Daiyu crashed, it left a deep crater in the heart of the Insumousu sea, destroying the homes of the people of Insumousu. They found a new home in the remains of the ship. As Insumousu's civilization developed, the ship grew to be considered a celestial palace and its deceased inhabitants were revered as fallen gods for many generations.[4] The fall of the Xianzhou Daiyu became known as the Divine Fall, and later became a holiday celebrated on the second day of rest in the Month of Tides — Divine Fall Day.[3]
As centuries passed, the Xianzhou Alliance eventually established contact with Insumousu and began trade and diplomatic relations with them.[4] After the people of Insumousu learned the truth behind the Divine Fall, they no longer had a religious view on the Daiyu and its people, though their sense of reverence would still remain. With the support of the Xianzhou Luofu's Celestial Guild, a new ritual was added to the Divine Fall Day celebration: people dive into the wreckage of the Xianzhou Daiyu to search for the remains of Xianzhou humans, then inter them into starskiffs and launch the skiffs into the star of the Thalassa system. The starskiffs are each inscribed with a row of beautiful Insumousu calligraphy that reads, "You should undo the ropes for drowned sailors. Don't cry. You can sail safely after my demise."[3]
The well-educated Insumousu gentry regard themselves as a continuation of the Daiyu and believe that "What the Daiyu once followed, we should follow. What the Daiyu once fought against, we should also fight."[4]
Personnel[]
- Qingzhu † — Leader of the Xianzhou Daiyu[3]
Notes[]
- ↑ This part of the relic lore is incorrect, as the Daiyu was destroyed before the Xianzhou Alliance received the Ambrosial Arbor and became long-lived. A Study into the Mara-Struck also confirms this:
After becoming long-life species, the eight Xianzhou ships reproduced exponentially...
Trivia[]
- The Daiyu had a species of angelica that it shared its name with.[5]
- The Daiyu combating against the viscorpi and its legacy on Insumousu is a type of woe fortune that can be divined by Ruoyue.[6]
- The Daiyu was the first Xianzhou ship to be destroyed.
