profile (appearance)

The memetic lifeform "Dormancy", fabricated by Gallagher via borrowing the power of Enigmata. It assists the residents of Dreamflux Reef in traveling to and from the sweet dream.
It is often misconstrued as a manifestation of people's fears of "death" and "murder."

Something Unto Death, real name "Dormancy,"[1] also known as "Death" and "Sleepie,"[2] is a notable NPC on Penacony. Following the completion of the Adventure Mission Scorchsand Vacation, it can be found in SoulGlad™ Scorchsand Audition Venue at the end of the Path of the Superstar if the player chooses to leave it there.

Profile[]

"Dormancy" is a Memetic Entity that sends people from the "sweet dream" on Penacony to the Primordial Dreamscape. Though originally believed to be the culprit behind numerous deaths within the Dreamscape, these murders are actually a mode of transportation between dreams.[2] It has a close connection with Gallagher and abducts people at his command.[3][4]

History[]

By the time the Watchmaker and Gallagher learned that the Planet of Festivities itself is a Stellaron disaster, The Family had a firm grip on Penacony, swiftly quelling any opposition that arose. At his wit's end, Gallagher had to use the power of the Enigmata and sought refuge in Dreamflux Reef. Over the years, he created "Dormancy" within this dream for their use by exploiting a loophole that regular people can't fall asleep again while they are inside the Dreamscape.[1] The Watchmaker and Gallagher sent music boxes to invite various factions in the cosmos, using "Dormancy" as the answer to "the impossible in the realm of dreams."[5]

According to Sunday's investigation notes, over a hundred abducted victims were related to "Death".[6] However, it sometimes messes up by fetching the wrong guests and would never hurt anyone.[2]

At some point before the Charmony Festival of 2158 AE, it abducted Robin when she was investigating it and the traitor in the Family.[6] Her "death" was witnessed by Aventurine who was about to meet her.[7][8]

The Trailblazer and Firefly were attacked by it during their investigation in A Child's Dream, and were rescued by Black Swan.[9] After Firefly was separated from the Trailblazer, she investigated it on her own following Elio's script and came up with some theories about the meme. She instructed Silver Wolf to issue invitations, drawing everyone to the dream's hotel. She intended to call upon "Death" before the Trailblazer arrived, to solve the riddle using more direct means, and then invite them to join. However, contrary to her wishes, she couldn't defy the script and didn't get a chance to explain.[2] As a result, she was impaled by the bladed wings of "Death" as witnessed by the Trailblazer, Black Swan and Acheron.[10]

While the Astral Express Crew and Acheron fought Ten Stonehearts: Aventurine of Stratagems in Clock Studios Theme Park, Gallagher confronted Sunday in Dewlight Pavilion and commanded "Death" to abduct Sunday.[4] Later, the Astral Express Crew reassembled in Dreamflux Reef, learned the truth behind "Dormancy" from Misha and Gallagher, and met the previously abducted victims: Firefly, Robin and Sunday.[2]

After the Sunday incident in Trailblaze Mission And on the Eighth Day, it managed to break into the Moment of Scorchsand in search of Gallagher, not knowing that he already ceased to exist. For the safety of everyone, Aideen and staff spared no effort to have it captured as it has somehow been rendered fragile. When shooting the film Scorchsand Vacation, they couldn't get the rights to Argenti, so they had the director Mr. Reca place this monster as the final obstacle. Depending on the Trailblazer's choice, it will be released back to the edge of the Dreamscape, or kept as an NPC at the end of the Path of the Superstar.[11]

An invisible barrier parted you from "Dormancy."
It is much quieter than before, as if it has become used to the environment here. However, you can still hear a faint calling...

Trivia[]

  • Dr. Ratio has figured out that the impossible in the Dreamscape is not "Death," but rather "Dormancy."[4] He gave Aventurine a capsule containing the answer and told him to open it when he's on his last legs.[12]
