Shields are a combat mechanic in Honkai: Star Rail. They are buffs applied to characters that will absorb DMG taken in place of HP.

The remaining shield value of a character is displayed in the character menu while in combat, alongside HP and Energy.

If an instance of DMG exceeds a shield's remaining value, the portion that the shield fails to absorb will overflow and be dealt to the character.

Shield Stacking[]

If multiple shields are applied to the same character, they will not stack, and the effective shield value of the character is equal to that of the shield with the highest value. When taking DMG, all applied shields will absorb the full amount of DMG simultaneously. A lower-value shield can break in the background while a higher-value shield remains.

If a background shield breaks, its corresponding shield status will disappear, alongside any additional effects that the status may have provided, such as the aggro increase from March 7th's shield.

Trailblazer (Preservation) Trailblazer (Preservation) After using Technique, at the start of the next battle, gains a Shield that absorbs DMG equal to 30% of the Trailblazer's DEF plus 384 for 1 turn(s). Technique Defense
Gepard Gepard After Gepard uses his Technique, when the next battle begins, a Shield will be applied to all allies, absorbing DMG equal to 24% of Gepard's DEF plus 150 for 2 turn(s). Technique Defense
Aventurine Aventurine Provides all allies with a Fortified Wager shield that can block DMG equal to 16%—25.6% of Aventurine's DEF plus 80—356, lasting for 3 turn(s). When Fortified Wager is gained repeatedly, the Shield Effect can stack, up to 200% of the current Shield Effect provided by the Skill. Skill Defense
Gepard Gepard Applies a Shield to all allies, absorbing DMG equal to 30%—48% of Gepard's DEF plus 150—667.5 for 3 turn(s). Ultimate Defense
Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae When an ally character becomes the "Bondmate," Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae summons "Souldragon" for them, which has an initial SPD of 165.
When "Souldragon" takes action, dispels 1 debuff(s) from all allies and provides a Shield that can offset DMG equal to 7%—10.6% of Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae's ATK plus 50—222.5 for 3 turn(s). The Shield Effect provided by Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae and "Souldragon" can be stacked, but it will not exceed 300% of the Shield provided by Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae's Skill.
When Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae or the "Bondmate" is knocked down, "Souldragon" disappears.

"Bondmate" only applies to the most recent target of Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae's Skill.
Skill Defense
March 7th (Preservation) March 7th (Preservation) Provides a single ally with a Shield that can absorb DMG equal to 38%—60.8% of March 7th's DEF plus 190—845.5 for 3 turn(s).
If the ally's current HP percentage is 30% or higher, greatly increases the chance of enemies attacking that ally.
Skill Defense
Trailblazer (Preservation) Trailblazer (Preservation) Each time the Trailblazer is hit, they gain 1 stack of Magma Will for a max of 8 stack(s).
When Magma Will has no fewer than 4 stacks, the Trailblazer's Basic ATK becomes enhanced, dealing DMG to a single enemy and enemies adjacent to it.
When the Trailblazer uses Basic ATK, Skill, or Ultimate, apply a Shield to all allies that absorbs DMG equal to 4%—6.4% of the Trailblazer's DEF plus 20—89. The Shield lasts for 2 turn(s).
