The Scholars' Strife was an internal conflict in the Intelligentsia Guild that followed The Second Emperor's War. It was a war where the ownership of the Scepters was disputed.[1][2]

Description[]

After Rubert II's death, with the IPC's supervision, the Emperor's legacy, the Scepter system, was completely inherited by the Intelligentsia Guild. This legacy that far surpassed human intelligence fueled rumors among the schools — With the Scepters' computational power, they could create a perfect scholar that swore allegiance to them, a genius belonging to the Intelligentsia Guild possessing unlimited life, inexhaustible knowledge repository, and endless research tools.

To realize this goal, and for the interests of the various schools, the Scholars' Strife lifted its curtains.

To contend for even more Scepter allocation, the various schools, with the School of Interstellar Energy Resources at the head, attacked one another to get more shares of the legacy. What was once a purely scientific pursuit gradually devolved into some cloak-and-dagger competition, and with the intervention of the IPC and other external powers, a shadow of a proxy war was cast over the Scholars' Strife. The Guild's knowledge and ideals were no longer pure, leaving only ugly conflicts behind.

The Intelligentsia Guild's internal strife brought many opportunities for History Fictionologists. In this current era, historical records related to the Scholars' Strife have been distorted beyond recognition. The only piece of truth that people can glean is that the Scepters were completely disabled during the war. The legacy rotted under uncertain circumstances, and the war came to a close in a chaotic mess of unresolved conflicts.

The farcical war left almost nothing of value behind. Only one lone seeker of knowledge left behind the "solitary waves theory conundrum" for future generations at the end of their relentless pursuit, the only treasure that bore fruit after the dust settled.

History[]

Background[]

Rubert II created a system called the Scepters System. It is a cluster of inorganic bionic neurons which functioned as his external brain. They were widely distributed across the Machine Empire to complete the observations, extrapolations, and interference orders passed on by Rubert II. After the Second Emperor's War, numerous Scepter units were handed over to the Intelligentsia Guild by the IPC for research.[1][3]

It had incredible computational power as even just a fraction of it would alleviate a lot of work and speed up research progress by a significant amount.[3] One singular Scepter could be the size of a planet.[4]

To come to an agreement on the distribution of the Scepters, the Guild decided to hold a Futurological Congress on Sipohia. Stander Dahl proposed that whoever possessed the most valuable research and could solve greater problems would own the Scepters. This however makes the audience angry. The School of Interstellar Energy Resources intervened and proposed a different suggestion: To use 95% of the computation power to the four Cosmic Conundrums, which was the chosen suggestion.[5][6]

Conflict[]

When Patavia Adler Sommerville's share of the ten-thousandth of the Scepter's computational power was revoked after Mollett sabotaged her experiments, the realization that the Intelligentsia Guild is putting a monopoly on the Scepters sparks the Scholars' Strife.[7]

Due to an oversight in Scholar Crouch's experiment, he accidentally let out the Anti-Organic Virus. It ran amok and infected countless scholars, making them think that they were Meniks and serve the Rubert Empire. The infected scholars occupied the Scepters, yet some were killed by Polka Kakamond. It took the destruction of 122 Scepters to stop the scholars. Because of this incident, the School of Evolutionary Perfection, which Crouch was a part of, was dissolved.[8][9]

Capitalizing on this incident, the IPC starts reducing their funds to the various major schools.[9]

This caused a protest in the Cosmic Library Izmael, proclaiming to "return knowledge to knowledge itself." However, the Armed Archaeologists subdued them with numerous Non-lethal Suppression Weapons.[10][11]

On the border star Klostia, Eagleye and their zealots are spreading admission tickets for the Scholars' Strife and denouncing Relative Cognition. There, they exploded the outer wall of the base of the Intelligentsia Guild, rallying people to charge inside the building. To extinguish the spark of Relative Cognition, the Scepter there was used to destroy all the Synesthesia Beacons in the area.[12]

Near the end of the Scholars' Strife, Patavia eventually discovers the Scepter system core as a hidden star.[13] She uses it to peer into the thoughts of Nous, and the leaking thoughts overloads the Scepters, paralyzing them level by level.[14][15]

Aftermath[]

What Patavia comprehended when she peered into Nous' thoughts became the Solitary Waves Theory.[16]

Eventually, the Scepters were completely crippled with the questions of the scholars. They are now currently reformed as tourist spots.[4][16]

The Intelligenstia Guild wanted to use the History Fictionologists to cover up the events of the Scholars' Strife.[16]
