The Primeval Imperium was the governing body of the Xianzhou natives' home planet, ruled by the Primeval Imperium Emperor.
Overview[]
The Primeval Imperium was founded when the emperor united the warring nations of their home planet. After unification, the emperor issued a ban on all forms of weaponry and replaced security institutions with aurumatons and ingenia to maintain public order.[1] This period of time, before the Xianzhou fleet departed, is called the Primeval Imperium Era. It is unknown what happened to the world after the fleet was dispatched, but its coordinates have since been lost and the fleet has never returned.[2]
Culture[]
The people of the Primeval Imperium kept small, cat-like animals called grimalkins as pets. The modern-day Xianzhou house cat is an evolved form of the grimalkin.[3]
The people once believed that the Moon was a "Gloomy Hare" or an "ice toad," while the Sun was a "Golden Crow" or "six dragons." Some of their literary devices include using "wild horses," "fog," and "clouds" to refer generally to clouds, air, and dust.[1]
During the Swarm Disaster, a scale of Oroboros was consecrated in one of the Primeval Imperium temples.[4]
"Xuanyuan" is a famed bow of legend that later became used to refer to the Reignbow Arbiter's weapon.[1]
Langgan, Bigui, and Shatang are mystic trees found in Primeval Imperium legends, which have trunks made of jade and bear fruits that grant immortality.[1]
An ancient legend from the Primeval Imperium states: "There once was a practitioner of immortal arts who had some success in their pursuit. They walked on the earth, employing the essence of its leylines to perform a myriad of miraculous techniques. The practitioner then attempted to take to the skies to be among the stars, but found that they had long since drifted away from the earth's leylines, and eventually fell into the abyss of death."[5]
Legacy[]
In the Xianzhou Alliance, alchemy is considered to be the most important cultural inheritance retained from the Primeval Imperium.[6]
The tile game Celestial Jade has existed since the days of the Primeval Imperium, but was lost during the Alliance's period of long interstellar drift. Thanks to an anonymous diviner at the Divination Commission, the rules have been collated and brought back to modern-day Xianzhou.[7]
The temple fair is a tradition from the Primeval Imperium Era. During festivals, everyone would gather near temples to perform rituals for the gods. Later, it evolved into a market where people would gather to play games together. The temples themselves are now archaic since the Reignbow Arbiter no longer requires offerings, but temple fairs are still held annually by the Realm-Keeping Commission.[8]
