Opal is a rank P46 employee of the Strategic Investment Department in the Interastral Peace Corporation, and a member of the Ten Stonehearts.[2]
He makes his first appearance during Myriad Celestia Trailer: Stoneheart's Oath Ring: Both Ends of the Scale alongside his fellow Stonehearts.
Profile[]
Not much is currently known about Opal and his personal life, besides being one of the Ten Stonehearts and ranking at P46, making him one of the group's high-ranking members, alongside Jade and Obsidian.[2] As one of the Ten Stonehearts, Opal possesses his own Cornerstone, an extension of Diamond's power as an Emanator of Preservation.[3][4] He has been seen with an opal stone chiseled to resemble a pacifier, though it is currently unknown whether or not it is his Cornerstone. Several individuals, presumably Opal's subordinates, have been seen holding similar-looking opals.[5]
Appearance[]
Opal appears as a very short young man with fair skin, with choppy, short-length hair of varying colors of grayish blonde mixed with grayish light blue and grayish light pink and reminiscent of light reflected by an Opal gemstone.
Opal wears a black fedora with a pearlescent hatband connected by two gold decorations chained together. He wears a three-piece suit consisting of a white dress shirt with a high white collar and white long sleeves, complete with cuffs at the end and a gold-colored necktie, a black vest with four golden buttons and various golden accents and details, and a larger black coat with golden accents and large sleeves that drap. He wears black trousers, black dress shoes with gold lining, and black gloves with two golden rings on his right hand, one on his thumb and one on his pinky finger, and a ring embedded with an Opal gemstone on his ring finger.
History[]
During a meeting with Jade and Obsidian, after the Silverchain Galaxy had been officially included in the Interastral Peace Corporation's commercial sphere, Opal commented that the galaxy should've been destroyed by an ion storm.[2]
Opal selected Aventurine to lead the Penacony project in his stead, after Diamond decided that Opal's tactics wouldn't have led to a peaceful outcome.[6] Following her failed mission on Jarilo-VI and subsequent demotion to P44, Topaz was allocated to the project on Penacony, which she believed should have been handled by a P46 or higher-ranked member like Opal or Obsidian.[7] During Aventurine's plan at Clock Studios Theme Park, his "future" phantom remarked that Opal would have resolved the problem without a fuss.[8]
Ultimately, while Aventurine successfully provided a back door for the IPC to initiate negotiations with The Family to decide Penacony's future, a hefty price was paid: the destruction of his Cornerstone. This act led Diamond to summon Opal and the other Stonehearts to decide whether or not Aventurine remained within the organization. Opal was the final member to cast his vote during the proceedings and voted in favor of allowing Aventurine to remain within the Ten Stonehearts, stating that his time wasn't up yet. Opal's decisive vote broke the 4-4 tie set by the other members and allowed Aventurine to retain his position, an outcome Diamond approved of.[5]
