The Lunar Embryo is the plaguemark of the Xianzhou Yaoqing. The Lunar Embryo was created by Borisin Warhead Duran by sacrificing Borisins and Foxians to the Redspring bestowed by the Aeon of Abundance, Yaoshi. It has the appearance of a moon.[1]
Description[]
Crimson Moon[]
After the creation of the Lunar Embryo, Duran obtained a deep red moon-shaped heart, a product of the plaguemark, from the birthing bed (Moon). It was traditionally passed down from one Warhead to the next, and grants them the power to turn Foxians into complete Borisins by infecting them with the Warhead's blood.[2]
The Crimson Moon is currently held by Arbiter-General Feixiao, who obtained it after Hoolay's death.[3]
Mock Crimson Moon[]
The Mock Crimson Moon was an artificial product created by Intelligentsia Guild Scholar Torkirk from the School of Evolutionary Perfection during the Scholars' Strife. It was once experimented on a dying patient. After having it transplanted into their body, their health improved by the day as they grew stronger and stronger, but they found themself tearing at their throat and chest in a fit of extreme pain and madness under the white light of the moon. The researchers claimed that the cells had assimilated roughly 6.01% of the subject's tissue, and this is the limit that a regular person can withstand. Although the subject's innate bodily fluid boiling syndrome was able to greatly suppress the negative side effects of the Mock Crimson Moon, the researchers ended the experiment and killed the subject with a gun.[4]
In the end, the mad Torkirk stood atop the bodies of his colleagues, eventually dying of heart failure.[5]
History[]
In Borisin legends, the first Warhead Duran was dissatisfied with the Borisins' limited lifespan and power. He slaughtered countless Borisins and Foxians alike and poured them into the Redspring bestowed by Yaoshi.[6] Through a form of "genetic sorcery," the Lunar Embryo was created in the spring. Duran ascended the birthing bed (Moon) and obtained a heart in the shape of a deep-red full moon, which he replaced his original heart with. From then on, each Warhead succession ritual had the successor cut open the previous Warhead's chest and consume the divine heart, thus possessing it as their own.[7]
While the borisin Warheads retained the Crimson Moon, the Xianzhou Yaoqing somehow managed to obtain the Lunar Embryo at some point. In the Year 4800 Star Calendar, the five lineages of the Vidyadhara made an alliance on the Xianzhou Yuque, putting their sacred vow into writing: "This oath shall remain unbroken, standing stronger than even earth and steel."[8] The five High Elders were bound to keep watch over the respective plaguemarks of each Xianzhou ship. Caelorum Venti was bound to watch over the Lunar Embryo on the Yaoqing.[9]
In the Year 8100 Star Calendar, during the Luminary Wardance Ceremony on the Xianzhou Luofu,[10] Hoolay tears the Crimson Moon out of his chest and casts it above the Skysplitter in a last-ditch effort to kill Feixiao. However, Feixiao consumes it to protect all Foxian bystanders and successfully subdues her ensuing Moon Rage.[11]
