A traditional Xianzhou Alliance festival and martial arts tournament established to commemorate the moments of salvation granted by the Reignbow Arbiter and the Cloud Knights. Warriors from all worlds are invited to compete as peers.

The Luminary Wardance Ceremony, sometimes shortened to Luminary Wardance or just Wardance, is a festival held in honor of the Reignbow Arbiter and the Cloud Knights who fought against the Abominations of Abundance and protected the Xianzhou ships. Aside from starskiff performances, the festival primarily consists of martial contests.[1]

Overview[]

The martial contests that take place during the ceremony are generally run with many contestants fighting each other. Outside of martial prowess, teams are also scored for their vibes and support from the audience. The tournament is usually held on the Skysplitter, and the Alliance extends formal invitations to various parties in the cosmos to partake in the event.

During the knockout rounds, if a popular team is defeated, they are eligible to return to the contest if enough people vote for their return. Occasionally, the contests allow for an informal invitational battle between contestants.

After acquiring points from defeating other teams, the challengers can go against the ringmaster of the bracket.

Story[]

700 years prior to the events of the game, the Luofu hosted a Wardance ceremony. Igor of Jarilo-VI participated in the contest, eventually meeting ringmaster Jing Yuan in the finals. Igor's reason for participating was to find external assistance to help his home planet repel the Antimatter Legion, and despite being offered wealth and fame, declined it all. In the finals, Igor forfeited and left empty-handed back to his home planet, taking a picture with Jing Yuan before leaving. 300 years later, after Jing Yuan became Arbiter-General, he decided to extend an invitation to Igor's descendants on Jarilo-VI; even after being informed that the planet had been destroyed, he still had it sent out anyways.[2]

In August of Year 8100 Star Calendar,[3] Jing Yuan invites the Astral Express Crew to the Wardance held on the Xianzhou Luofu. This Wardance is also attended by delegations from the Xianzhou Zhuming and the Xianzhou Yaoqing. Under pretense of enjoying the festivities, fellow Generals Huaiyan and Feixiao have actually been sent by Marshal Hua to question Jing Yuan for further details about the recent Ambrosial Arbor crisis.[4]

While the investigation is underway, borisin led by Mok Tok, assisted by dissident Vidyadhara Preceptors, infiltrate the Luofu and free Hoolay from the Shackling Prison, causing some unrest. To prevent the chaos from being realized by the majority of the populace, the generals proceed with the Wardance as expected while limiting overall traffic in order to force Hoolay to attack the Skysplitter. Hoolay heads for the Skysplitter, knowing that the ship was large enough to escape the Luofu through its Jade Gate. However, he is ultimately slain by Feixiao and Yanqing, putting an end to the borisins' chaos.[5]

With the borisin situation dealt with, the actual Wardance proceeds, with many parties partaking in the event. Notably, the people of Jarilo-VI were invited and chose to attend in order to establish relations with the rest of the cosmos, with Luka, Svarog, and Lynx serving as their representatives. Upon arriving, Luka learns that the invite was sent 400 years ago, but he is still allowed to enter the tournament as a contestant. Accompanied by journalist-in-training Carmella, he eventually runs into the Trailblazer, who agrees to help him as a coach.[6] Luka eventually reaches the finals and faces Yanqing, though he ends up losing the match. Despite his loss, he is able to win the audience over and feels relieved, having been plagued with doubts when he arrived.[2]

A meeting with Jing Yuan reveals that the invitation that Jarilo-VI had received was the same one Jing Yuan had sent centuries ago, though their lack of external communications meant that the invitation was received later than expected. Pleased that Igor's wishes had been fulfilled, and wanting to make amends for his inability to help back then, Jing Yuan declares that the Alliance would help the people of Jarilo-VI as long as they needed.[2]
