The Arbiter-General who governs the Xianzhou Zhuming. Referred to as the Flaming Heart. As an individual bearing an elderly visage, the general stands as an oddity among the ever-youthful people of the Xianzhou.

Loading Screen: Huaiyan

Huaiyan (Chinese: 怀炎) is one of the seven Arbiter-Generals of the Xianzhou Alliance's Cloud Knights and the Master of the Zhuming Artisanship Commission.

Profile[]

Described as "strong and righteous," Huaiyan presides over the Xianzhou Zhuming, with his office at the Flamewheel Forge. He is said to be the longest-lived human aboard the Xianzhou.[3] He has unrestricted access to visit the Flint Emperor who is imprisoned in the Flamewheel Forge.[4] He has an adoptive granddaughter named Yunli[1] who enjoys collecting swords and has studied swordsmanship since her youth.[5]

History[]

Huaiyan was a hot-blooded man in his younger days. If someone taunted him, he would have drawn his sword and fought.[6]

Huaiyan was the master of Yingxing, an outworlder craftsman who would eventually go on to join the legendary High-Cloud Quintet. When Baiheng and the Xianzhou Yaoqing's delegation visited the Zhuming, Huaiyan was willing to allocate three hundred fighter jets, twenty thousand thunder crossbows, and twenty thousand devastator glaives in response to Helm-Master Qingying's request for reinforcements for the Xianzhou Yaoqing's Heroncrest Fleet's fight against the borisin, but only a dozen or so personnel.[3]

Huaiyan was also the master of Yunli's father, Hanguang, a rare genius craftsman not seen in the Flamewheel Forge since Yingxing. After the accidental deaths of Yunli's parents, she was adopted by Huaiyan.[1]

Although he had retired several times already, with the change in circumstances, Marshal Hua had called General Huaiyan back to duty.[7]

Whenever he tutors students himself and personally passes on his skills both as a craftsman and a soldier, these students would either become grandmasters who leave a mark in the annals as Furnace Masters or become Cloud Knights with names that thunder through the Alliance such as the Flamewheel Octet.[8]

Story[]

Luminary Wardance Ceremony[]

At some point of AE 2158 (Star Calendar Year 8100[9]), the Zhuming delegation of Huaiyan and Yunli visited the Luminary Wardance Ceremony on the the Xianzhou Luofu. Huaiyan hosted the ceremony of receiving the sword Guyun from the Kalevala delegation, which was originally planned as the prize of the Wardance's winner. Upon hearing this, Guyun was enough of its destiny of bloodshed, and Argenti stole it from its case according to its will. The investigation team confronted Argenti and eventually learned the full story of Guyun and its original wielder, a nameless Cloud Knight who got stranded on Kalevala and helped their people defeat the borisin. Eventually, Yunli fulfilled its will by melting it down and reforging it into a Guzheng, which would then be placed in Aurum Alley as a memorial to the nameless Cloud Knight. Huaiyan prepared a spared sword as the Wardance's prize instead.[1]

Huaiyan and Feixiao were ordered by Marshal Hua to investigate the Luofu's Ambrosial Arbor Crisis. The only order Huaiyan received, however, was "Attend the Wardance and listen to Feixiao's questioning." Huaiyan trusted Jing Yuan's loyalty to the Luofu and the Alliance. He asked Yunli and Yanqing to train March 7th as a Wardance contestant on behalf of the Astral Express.[10]

Following the jailbreak of Hoolay, Huaiyan stepped in as the temporary commanding officer of the Seat of Divine Foresight and oversaw the Six Commissions' affairs on the Luofu. He ordered Yunli and the newly trained March 7th to act as the contestants of the fake Wardance, which was actually the Cloud Knights' trap for Hoolay. Feixiao would be in charge of scaring the wolves and cutting off their other means of escape, making Hoolay think that the Skysplitter would be his best way out. Given that the borisin already have insiders on the Luofu, Jing Yuan would be in charge of putting pressure on them, making them focus solely on keeping themselves safe. Then Huaiyan would go with the Sky-Faring Commission to guard the Jade Gate and ensure that things did not spiral out of control.[11][12]

After Hoolay was defeated, Jing Yuan, Feixiao and Huaiyan received a message from Yaoguang and learned the interrogation result of Luocha and Jingliu.[13] After the real Wardance was over, Yanqing and the Astral Express Crew said a formal farewell to Huaiyan and Yunli who were returning to the Zhuming.[14]

Character Voice-Overs

CharacterVoice-Overs
  • About Huaiyan Despite all the hardships elder Huaiyan has faced, he still finds joy in the world. He is an example every general should follow.
  • About Yunli Old master Huaiyan is so shrewd, yet the child he brought up is so forthright... It's a shame I can't devote myself entirely to mentoring a disciple, and I probably won't ever get it in this lifetime.
  • About Huaiyan In the entire Alliance, Huaiyan is the most inscrutable of the generals. I've worked with him on more than a few occasions, but I can never seem to figure him out.
  • About Yunli Miss Yunli may be the second youngest member of the Flamewheel Octet, but she is no less a swordsmaster than the other seven. Some might suspect her of benefitting from her connection to Huaiyan, but she could not have endured such rigor and refinement if she were not a valuable talent in her own right.
  • Added to Team With Yunli Miss Yunli, it's dangerous here. Just keep your distance, alright... I'm going to call your grandfather over...
  • About Yunli I recall that she is the adopted granddaughter of General Huaiyan. She has excellent swordsmanship and is about the same age as Yanging — it would be ideal if the two could get along well and learn from each other.
  • About Huaiyan I would not consider myself close to General Huaiyan, but I have prepared incense for him before. Don't be fooled by the old general's usual cheerful demeanor... When he gets angry, it's like there's steam coming out of his ears.
  • About Huaiyan That old man is quite capable. Anyone who has lived that long and isn't sick of himself must be quite capable.
  • Parting You're leaving? Actually, I suddenly have a craving for some good food... Let's go, I'll treat you. Don't worry, I have some pocket money from grandpa.
  • Knowledge The Xianzhou Zhuming is famous across the stars for its forging and metallurgy, and there are countless master craftsmen among its ranks — most of them were Grandpa's apprentices. That includes Yingxing, the "flying comet."
  • About Huaiyan Grandpa always treats me like a child. But come to think of it, at his age, who isn't a child to him?
  • About Jing Yuan Every time I hear Grandpa and General Jing Yuan talking, I start to fall asleep. Why can't they speak to each other the same way they talk to me? I can never understand conversations between generals...
  • About Blade You mean Yingxing? I've never met him in person, but Grandpa has mentioned him countless times. He's probably one of his most famous apprentices... I'd love to chat with that Shard Sword of his if I get the chance.
  • Added to Team With Jiaoqiu Are you okay? Grandpa always said it's bad to exercise after eating...
