Hoolay is a mission-exclusive NPC and the major antagonist of Trailblaze Continuance Finest Duel Under the Pristine Blue (I) and Trailblaze Continuance Finest Duel Under the Pristine Blue (II).
Profile[]
Hoolay is the last Warhead Brood Lord of the borisin before his imprisonment by the Xianzhou Alliance.
Appearance[]
As a borisin, Hoolay is broad and lean, with powerful jaws and neck muscles. He has well-developed canine teeth, beast-like ears on top of his heads, and sharp claws on his hands and feet. He is capable of transforming under Moon Rage.
History[]
War With the Xianzhou Alliance[]
Throughout his life, Hoolay had taken countless lives by his own hand, gnashed and gnawed on flesh, devoured the blood of innocents, and brought war and a scourge upon all worlds he came across. Hoolay took pride and joy in ravaging other civilizations. In order to surpass former leaders, he led his soldiers on an expedition in order to make a name for himself and affirm his position in the tribe. At some point about 700 years ago, Hoolay was defeated by Jingliu, something which he took great offence to. After his capture and imprisonment in The Shackling Prison, the Abundance Axis coalition greatly declined in strength.[3]
Imprisonment[]
Hoolay was muzzled, shackled, fettered, and placed in a straight jacket before being sentenced to imprisonment.[4] He was held accountable for numerous acts of invasions, associated war crimes, and for long-term enslavement of Foxians and utilizing their blood for alchemical purposes. His confinement became the foundation of the alliance between the Xianzhou and the Foxians, and individuals who objected to this sentence would be punished for "Sowing Discord". The terms of his imprisonment was that he was to be subjected to the punishment of the Forest of Swords and never be pardoned. His place of detention is also changed on a yearly basis, and the new location was to remain unknown to individuals below the rank of Cloud Knight Lieutenant or Judge.[5] While the punishment was meant to be fatal and Hoolay was not given any food, he was somehow able to survive for hundreds of years without sustenance while the wounds inflicted by the Forest of Swords would simply restore themselves.
Hoolay's imprisonment despite his crimes was meant to serve as a warning to prevent another repeat similarly to the Sedition of Imbibitor Lunae, though many foxians would visit him and draw his blood in an attempt to unravel the secret behind Moon Rage, wanting to undo its effects on them. These attempts failed, and thus they resorted to more violent measures.
Jailbreak[]
Qingning, a disciple of Sanctus Medicus, had attempted to free Hoolay at some point, though she failed to do so and was apprehended by the Realm-Keeping Commission at Sky's End Cave.[6]
A group of borisin, rallied under Phantylia (in her "Mangas" persona) would infiltrate the Shackling Prison in order to free Hoolay. At the same time, due to concerns about Jing Yuan's handling of the Stellaron crisis, The Xianzhou Yaoqing sent Feixiao and her lieutenants Jiaoqiu and Moze to transport Hoolay to the Yaoqing. Feixiao sent her lieutenants to pick him up in her stead. Unknown to the Alliance, the borisin were able to infiltrate the Luofu by taking on the appearance of Xianzhou Natives, with a group led by Mok Tok infiltrating the prison with the help of invisible mara-struck soldiers provided by dissident Preceptors.
Two borisin managed to enter his cell, allowing him to break free, though he lamented the fact that his first meal since imprisonment was one of his own. The borisin bowed in respect to the Warhead and Hoolay spoke with Mok Tok, wondering why he had taken on the form of "lowly beasts" and learned of the escape plan. Hoolay found the plan absurd, but with little choice, told him to give him one of the disguise pills as a backup while taking Jiaoqiu with him as a hostage. As they neared the exit, Hoolay ordered the Foxian to be killed, having outlived his usefulness. Before the act could be carried out, Jiaoqiu mentioned Jingliu's recent visit to the Luofu, which prompted Hoolay to change his mind and take him in as a slave despite Mok Tok's protests. Hoolay and the other borisin escaped the prison before the gates could close on them.[7]
On the Run[]
Two dual-hours before the Wardance, Hoolay and his group had a brief moment of respite in the Exalting Sanctum. Jiaoqiu refuted that the borisin had come late to his rescue as they had been broken by Merlin's Claw and that the escape plan was not successful. Hoolay was upset by how broken the borisin had become and was not convinced by their claims of the prophet "Mangas" promising them glory. He decided that the borisin would follow him, and let Jiaoqiu leave to investigate after the foxian claimed that the Cloud Knights would close all the ports with his escape, knowing that he would return to him. Jiaoqiu realized that he was being tested and learned from another disguised borisin that the ports had not been closed and returned to Hoolay with the news before asking him about his unnatural lifespan.
Hoolay agreed to the request and told him about the story of Duran. Sacrificing both borisin and foxian lives with the assistance of genetic sorcery, the Lunar Embryo was formed, which formed a heart of a deep-red full moon, which he used to replace his own heart. This heart would be passed down to future Warheads, allowing them to live and thrive. Hoolay then realized from Jiaoqiu's story that Feixiao herself was also affected by Moon Rage and learned his true motives for saving her. When the Wardance ceremony was about to start, Mok Tok learned that their operation at Stargazer Navalia was discovered and urged him to flee, but Hoolay was unconvinced, knowing what Feixiao was up to. He declared that they would go to war, despite Mok Tok's insistence that they had no packs on hand, and claimed that he was the pack before biting a foxian escapee and transforming him into a borisin.
Hoolay then sensed Moze's presence and when approached by him, told him to inform Feixiao that he would create a massacre on the Luofu. Leaving Moze behind as a declaration of war, Hoolay and the other borisin began to convert foxians into borisin, which was only stopped after Feixiao used her borisin powers. With all the ships grounded for the upcoming Wardance festival, Hoolay boarded the ship with his pack to try and escape and restore borisin glory. To his surprise, the Cloud Knights had planned for him to attack the Skysplitter, though he was prepared and easily overwhelmed his ambushers. As Yanqing, Yunli and March 7th fought him to stall for time, Hoolay decided to entertain the idea but soon became bored and grabbed Yanqing. However, as he held the lieutenant in his grasp, his vision began to blur; prior to going to the Skysplitter, he had slit Jiaoqiu of his blood to drink for a pre-battle frenzy; the foxian had consumed Tumbledust to poison him, slowing his movement down.
Despite the poison, Hoolay was confident that he could beat the whelps, but soon began to realize that he was losing the fight. In a desperate attempt, Hoolay charged at Yanqing, who proceeded to use a technique that he had learned from Jingliu, freezing him in place. He was still able to swing his scimitar at him, but Feixiao appeared and deflected it. Having recognized the attack, Hoolay admitted that he thought he had enough time to learn how to overcome the attack, but conceded that Yanqing had bested him. Refusing to return to prison nor accept death, Hoolay proceeded to claw his heart out, causing it to expel dangerous energy and dissolving his body in the process. Feixiao decided to consume the heart in order to prevent it from causing further chaos to the people of the Luofu.[8]
Inside her mind, Hoolay appeared before her, admitting that the rage he felt was the taste he remembered — not the victory itself. He had anticipated his defeat and had made preparations to make her the future Warhead, acknowledging her strength and did not care what she did to them as long as she accepted. In order to convince her to accept, Hoolay attempted to exploit the doubts that had plagued her since her youth, though Feixiao saw through his attempt and refused, prompting him to form a shadow of herself in an attempt to take her body. Feixiao was able to defeat her shadow, regaining control of herself and putting an end to the former Warhead.[9]
