The following are general guidelines on Dialogue transcriptions for the Honkai: Star Rail Wiki.

In general, due to the length of these sections, these sections should be placed closer to the bottom of the page while more important information is placed above it.

Note: These instructions are for Source Editor. It might not display properly if copying and pasting these into Visual Editor.

While editing a page, switch to Source Editor by scrolling up and select the dropdown menu that says Visual Editor, then select Source Editor. You can also set your default editor to Source through My Preferences > Editing.

General Information

Templates

  • {{Dialogue Start}} adds <div class="dialogue"> and Category:Dialogue to pages. Use it at the start of the dialogue, underneath the Dialogue heading.
  • {{Dialogue End}} adds </div> to close the div tag from {{Dialogue Start}}.
    • Note: Tags are automatically closed upon reaching a heading. If a dialogue transcription uses multiple sections, make sure to add {{Dialogue Start}} after each sub-heading and close with {{Dialogue End}}.
  • Icon Dialogue Talk {{DIcon}} creates icons for dialogue options the player can select. The default icon is the Talk icon. See Template:DIcon for details. Other commonly-used icons, for reference:
  • If you can't fully transcribe dialogue due to dialogue branches, or because the dialogue changes based on completing certain missions, add {{Stub Dialogue|Reason}} above the dialogue section. Use {{tx}} for missing transcriptions.
  • Use {{Messages}} to transcribe messages exchanged during missions on the relevant Messages page, then {{Transclude}} them on the mission page.

Dialogue Formatting

  • :(Text) creates an indent. Adding more : on a line (such as ::(Text)) creates a deeper indent. Generally, deeper indentation levels are only needed for text that is exclusive to a dialogue option. If there is only one dialogue option, the text after it does not have to be indented.

  • ;(Text) will make the text on that line small and italicized, used for describing the scene, an action performed by characters, or anything that's not part of character dialogue or in-game narration. It can be combined with : to make it indented. For example:
Input Output
;(Talk to Dan Heng)
:;(A Frostspawn appears)
::;(Obtain {{Item|Adventure Log|20|x=5}})
(Talk to Dan Heng)
(A Frostspawn appears)
(Obtain Adventure Log Adventure Log ×5)
  • ---- is a horizontal rule, and the same as putting <hr />. Use this for scene changes, or to denote that some non-dialogue scenario has occurred in between transcriptions. You do not need to retype the start/end templates after using line breaks.
  • {{Color}} should be used to reflect any colored text. See the template's documentation for available colors. If the text is unbolded in-game, add nobold=1.
Input Output
:'''Silver Wolf:''' Maybe you're not as important as you think.
:'''Kafka:''' {{Color|keyword|nobold=1|Listen}}: You are in a daze right now. You don't know who you are, why you're here, or what you're going to do next. You think I look familiar, but you're not sure if you should trust me—.
Silver Wolf: Maybe you're not as important as you think.
Kafka: Listen: You are in a daze right now. You don't know who you are, why you're here, or what you're going to do next. You think I look familiar, but you're not sure if you should trust me—
  • Em dashes (—) are often used in dialogue and are not the same as hyphens (-). The HTML code for it is &mdash;.
  • If a character uses the Trailblazer's name (the one you set), write it as (Trailblazer), with parenthesis. This is to distinguish it from characters who use "Trailblazer" as a title for them.
    • For pronouns/titles that change based on the Trailblazer's gender, use {{MC|m = Text for Caelus|f = Text for Stelle}}
  • Use {{Rubi|larger text|smaller text}} to input ruby text.
Input Output
:'''Silver Wolf:''' How long do you think you need? According to the script, the {{Rubi|Astral Express crew|Trailblazers}} is arriving soon. We should avoid being seen by them.
:'''Kafka:''' I know, Silver Wolf. Just give me another minute.

  • Use {{Black Screen|text}} for in-game narration text displayed in black screens.

Mission Pages

Complex Missions

These missions have a lot of dialogue, dialogue branches, and scene changes — to make it easier for readers, line breaks will be used more liberally than most other Dialogue sections.

Trailblaze Missions almost always fall under the category of complex missions, while some Companion Missions will also fall under this category depending on the amount of dialogue they have.

Simple Missions

Most random Adventure Missions and Daily Missions have shorter dialogue that does not have the complexity of Trailblaze or Companion Missions. For the most part, they will follow the same layout as Complex Missions, with less line breaks.
