Fragmentum, more commonly referred to as Stellaron Corrosion, is a mysterious anomaly created by the existence of Stellarons. It creates corrupted creatures and enemies, and appears as crystal-like substances forming off corrupted matter. Fragmentum also refers to new spaces formed by corrosions of Stellarons.[1]

Overview[]

The mysterious phenomenon known as Stellaron Corrosion continues to propagate. Stellarons have blocked travel between civilizations since 2147 AE and they shattered the union of the worlds that were once united under the Path of the Amber Lord.

The Fragmentum is the corrosion of Stellarons on the local environment. It corrupts living beings, as seen in Cloud Knights on The Xianzhou Luofu, and spawns various enemies. Anything that comes into contact with the Fragmentum will be turned into Fragmentum creations.[1] The Caverns of Corrosion, Calyxes, and Stagnant Shadows are objects created by the Fragmentum. The Fragmentum started spreading in 2147 AE and is still spreading presently in 2158 AE.

Chunks of Fragmentum accumulated on a surface (such as walls and buildings) are called Fragmentum Corrosion, and can be easily identified by its black and gold colors. All existing Fragmentum spaces are connected, which is how monsters can enter areas with Fragmentum Corrosion.[1]

Relics are items created from the Fragmentum, and Relic Remains are broken parts of these relics that are nearly a step away from dissolving into Lost Lightdust. Lost Lightdust can be used to upgrade Relics, and can condense into larger Lost Gold Fragments and Lost Crystals. Lost Crystals are nearly identical to the crystal shed by the Aeon of Preservation, Qlipoth, and it is stressed to avoid offering these by accident as they go against the Aeon's beliefs.[2]

Fragmentum-created monsters generally have a habit of destroying human-made objects, though some Fragmentum monsters can be seen guarding them, and some have higher intellect than others. Monsters created by the Fragmentum tend to model themselves after the Stellaron's surroundings, as shown in Belobog where many of these enemies resemble Automatons, the Silvermane Guards, and even former Supreme Guardians. Those who die in Fragmentum-affected areas with particularly strong emotions can remain as Echoes, retaining some of the traits they had while living. These Echoes are generally more intelligent and can lead other Fragmentum monsters into battle.

While people can use Fragmentum-tainted equipment, doing so is ill-advised and will eventually cause death.[3] Machines that attempt to use Fragmentum-tainted equipment will also find themselves corrupted, though their inorganic nature prevents them from being destroyed. In the case of automatons, their fellow automatons on the base network will consider them an enemy due to the Fragmentum's taint.[4]

Data Bank[]

As the Cancer of All Worlds spreads along the worlds, the corrosive phenomenon of Fragmentum is also quietly expanding. The Intelligentsia Guild believes there is a direct, causative relationship between the two phenomena. They believe that the Fragmentum is caused by the Stellaron, and converts the entities and spaces it touches into special Fragmentum creations. These creations usually exist as a type of spatial corrosion. They seem to preserve the memories and habits of the original physical entity, but manifest significantly different outward behaviors and are often very hostile towards other beings. The scholars researching Fragmentum warn that we should consider any being corroded by Fragmentum to be a completely unrelated existence to its original form. Harboring any kind of delusions towards it could cause grave consequences.

Apart from corrosion, the Fragmentum also records the Aether information of the entities and spaces touched by the Fragmentum. Such data is combined with the information inherent in the Fragmentum and develop into a type of hybrid Fragmentum creation. Countless Relics, Fragmentum monsters, and even mysteriously isolated paranormal spaces would spring up in every corner of the worlds corroded by the Cancer of All Worlds. We are still investigating the intent behind such activities.

Story[]

Herta Space Station[]

When Stellaron Hunters Kafka and Silver Wolf extracted the Stellaron from Herta's collection, it corroded the space station and formed the Fragmentum throughout.[1]

Jarilo-VI[]

The presence of the Stellaron on Jarilo-VI caused the Eternal Freeze, resulting in Fragmentum spreading across the planet. To protect the Overworld, the Supreme Guardian and The Architects sent civilians underground and sealed it off in order to protect them, leaving behind various automatons for their protection. Despite this, the Fragmentum was able to seep underground, resulting in several towns becoming abandoned due to the danger of the monsters. The people of Belobog have been fighting the Fragmentum for roughly 700 years on a losing scale.

When the Astral Express arrived on the planet, they were able to seal the Stellaron, stopping the Eternal Freeze and the Fragmentum from spreading as aggressively, though the Stellaron's long duration on the planet meant that the Fragmentum was unlikely to disappear in the short-term.

The Xianzhou Luofu[]

The presence of a Stellaron on the Xianzhou Luofu caused the Ambrosial Arbor to revive itself, leading to the conclusion that a Stellaron does not need to be on a planet to cause corruption, turning Cloud Knights into mara-struck entities. Some Fragmentum creatures also manifested on the ship, primarily in Cloudford.

After defeating the mastermind behind the chaos, the Astral Express sealed the Stellaron.

Penacony[]

A Stellaron Crisis on Penacony resulted in the IPC losing control of the former prison planet. The Stellaron was eventually sealed by the Astral Express.

Trivia[]

  • The Stellaron crisis has been ongoing for 11 Amber Eras in Honkai: Star Rail.
  • Presently, the IPC has done experiments on 113 galaxies to contain the Fragmentum, with their broadcasters announcing they have been successful.
  • The Fragmentum is said to have completely destroyed the union of the universe created by the Amber Lord.
  • The Astral Express is one of the most famous groups of Stellaron fighters, being mentioned by the Interastral Peace Corporation in their broadcasts.
  • While not a Fragmentum monster, Trotters are frequently mistaken as one by the people of Jarilo-VI.[5][6]
