Entropy Loss Syndrome is a condition that refers to an irreversible chronic dissociation of a person's physical structure.

Effects

According to Firefly, a person afflicted with Entropy Loss Syndrome will slowly begin to fade away. In the early stages, a person can still do common menial tasks. Over time, it gets worse as the person will begin to slow down until the boundary between their body and the world becomes blurry.

The syndrome also causes the acceleration of the person's aging and leads to their premature death. The armor of the Iron Cavalry worsens the pain of entropy loss due to the synchronization with the pilot's sensory organs.

Cause

The higher-ups in Glamoth implemented the syndrome as a "fail-safe" within the Iron Cavalry when they were first babies to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. The Cavalry's troops were not seen as "human beings", so there was no objection to this implementation.

Treatments

As Glamoth has already fallen, the knowledge about the cure of Entropy Loss Syndrome is now forgotten. However, it is implied that Elio has promised Firefly to be free from the syndrome.
