Edict Edges, also called Sentinels, were weapons forged by the people of Izumo in order to combat the kami.
History[]
When the kami descended from Takamagahara and began to attack, the humans of Izumo crafted twelve blades known as the Edict Edges, or twelve Sentinels. These weapons were forged from the shattering of 70,033 blades and the bodies of slain Kami.[1] The wielders of these swords could recite the mantra contained within them to master the divine power of Takamagahara. These wielders were hailed as saviors by the people of Izumo, but in later accounts, they were referred to as "revenants" rather than "heroes."[2] The people used the might of the Edict Edges to light up their uncivilized world of darkness in less than ten Amber Eras, building cities of dazzling neon lights.[3]
However, all twelve Sentinels were eventually broken; what remained of them was used to forge the two Bearers: "Origin" and "End." The two blades were broken in the duel between Acheron and Hakuhatsu Ki, and a last blade (Life)[Note 1] was forged into "Naught," which Acheron wields to this day.[4][1]

Trivia[]
- Each of the twelve Sentinels bears a resemblance to a corresponding Divine Key from Honkai Impact 3rd, from its abilities to its order of appearance.
- Similar to how the people of Izumo slayed the Kami and used their bestial bodies to forge the twelve Sentinels, humanity in Honkai Impact 3rd slayed the Herrschers and extracted their cores to forge the weapons known as the Divine Keys.
- Like how the humans of Izumo eventually became Oni after drawing power from Takamagahara for prolonged periods of time, humans who have been corrupted by Honkai and bear hatred towards humanity can become Herrschers.
- The way the power of a Sentinel is activated by reciting the mantra contained within the blade is similar to how blade mantra works.
- The fifth blade, Frost, is also a reference to the PRI-ARM weapon Frozen Naraka, wielded by the Flame-Chaser SAKURA. It is depicted in front of a cherry blossom, a symbol associated with SAKURA, and had the same ability to freeze time as Frozen Naraka.
- The sixth blade, Fate, has a similar color palette to Seele and Veliona, the former representing the Herrscher of Death/Rebirth.

Notes[]
- ↑ It is implied that "Life" is not an actual blade, but is referring to Acheron herself, due to the word used, which is (Chinese: 人 Rén) meaning "person".
