Dongsheng (Chinese: 冬生) is an NPC aboard The Xianzhou Luofu, located in Central Starskiff Haven.

Profile[]

Dongsheng is a boy from an unknown planet with a primitive civilization. He followed Mufang to the Xianzhou Luofu when the Cloud Knights came to his planet to capture and return her to the Luofu.

Dongsheng (along with the other inhabitants of his home planet) refers to the citizens of the Xianzhou Luofu as "celestials" and refer to them like gods. They worshipped Mufang as a goddess before she was arrested and returned to the Luofu.

Dialogue[]

(First interaction)
Dongsheng: Big (brother/sister), are you a celestial too? Why do you look different from the rest of them?
Icon Dialogue Arrow I don't think I am...
Dongsheng: Huh? You're not a celestial? Then you must be seeking celestials, just like I am?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Other celestials?
Dongsheng: Yes, this is the Novenus Empyrea, where all celestials reside! Huh? Big (brother/sister), you're not a celestial? Then you must be seeking celestials, just like I am?
Icon Dialogue Arrow I'm a celestial too!
Dongsheng: Really? Forgive my dullness, but big (brother/sister), you don't exude that celestial air...
Dongsheng: You look so different from the celestial men and women here. I just can't see (Mister/Miss) as a celestial.
Dongsheng: Ooh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Dongsheng. I followed a celestial lady here. But... she doesn't know that.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Who is this celestial lady?
Dongsheng: She is... a lady who is both heavenly and celestial.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Let's not be superstitious!
Dongsheng: She's not some old wives' tale! Everyone knows who she is where I'm from! I even saw her using celestial magic to save my entire village!
Dongsheng: The older folks in the village say there are nine layers of heaven, with a palace at the very top where the eternally youthful celestials live. I thought it was just a fairy tale. but it's actually true!
Dongsheng: I want to become a celestial too, but Dad said only those who have reached the pinnacle of cultivation may enter the Celestial Hall, drink osmanthus wine, and feast on chicken drumsticks with the gods!
Dongsheng: I don't know what cultivation is, so I thought I'd never get the chance to eat chicken drumsticks, but here I am at the Celestial Hall!
Dongsheng: It's just that I haven't found the celestial lady since I arrived, and that makes me sad. (Mister/Miss), is there anything else you want to ask?
(Continue onto dialogue options below)

(Subsequent interactions)
Dongsheng: Big (brother/sister), we meet again! What can I do for you this time?
Icon Dialogue Talk I want to have a chat with you.
Dongsheng: Sure! Big (brother/sister), what do you wish to talk about?
Icon Dialogue Talk Tell me about this celestial lady.
(Version 1)
Dongsheng: Okay! I'm young, but I know lots of stories about her. Umm... I'll tell you the story from when my Dad was little!
Dongsheng: The celestial lady was living in a big manor in town and treated lots of people's illnesses. Some of them were really really sick and no one could cure them, but she cured them really easily.
Dongsheng: Then, lots and lots of people from other places came to see her for their issues. They'd walk for so long just to get medicine from her, and the celestial lady never disappointed them.
Dongsheng: She became so famous that even the government officials knew about her. There was a very very bad county official who tried to force her to tell him the secrets of her celestial medicine. Of course she wouldn't, so he locked her up!
Dongsheng: And that very night, two golden-armored door guardians suddenly appeared in front of the magistrate's court, and tore apart the entire jail! The guards who saw this were too scared to do anything!
Dongsheng: The celestial lady casually walked out of jail and went home. No one dared to trouble her again.
Dongsheng: Then even the county official had to listen to the celestial lady. Even the Emperor came to town to ask for her miracle medicine for the crown prince! That's the very winter when I was born! My name, Dongsheng, means "winterborn"!
Dongsheng: Heehee, aren't the celestial lady's stories so amazingly? Phew, storytelling is hard work. If you want more, I'll tell you other stories about her next time!
(Version 2)
Dongsheng: The celestial lady? I grew up with her stories as bedtime tales! It's a long story...
Dongsheng: Our village is next to a place called Redspring Peak. Our lives were really hard. We'd go an entire year without eating a single chicken drumstick.
Dongsheng: We were some backwater village. The only thing we did was plant crops that don't get enough water to grow, or hunt for hares and rats to keep ourselves fed.
Dongsheng: On top of this tough life, we also have demons rampaging in the mountain. It's like rubbing salt in the wound. It made life really really difficult.
Dongsheng: Legends say that long before I was born, the northernmost star in the sky suddenly shone so brightly that it turned night into day.
Dongsheng: Some older villagers who knew about the stars said a constellation was about to descend to rid of evil. And then, five or six years later, an egg suddenly fell from the sky!
Icon Dialogue Arrow An egg?
Dongsheng: The story said it was an egg, so it must've been an egg. This egg cracked open, and out came a beautiful lady.
Icon Dialogue Arrow The celestial lady?
Dongsheng: Yes. This egg cracked open and out popped a beautiful lady.
Dongsheng: Laiwang said his great-grandfather's great-grandfather was hunting in the woods that day and was the first to see the scene. The egg cut out a ravine on the mountain that extended a few dozen miles, and the whole forest caught on fire.
Dongsheng: Everyone thought the celestial lady was beautiful and nice, but there was something wrong with her head. When she first arrived, she couldn't even talk in a complete sentence. The most well-read elder gave her a name...
Dongsheng: ...Eggborn. Then one day, the celestial lady suddenly began to speak like a human. She said, "you can call me Mufang." Everyone was afraid of offending a celestial, so they called her "Goddess Mufang" instead.
(Version 3)
Dongsheng: Sure. A long long long time ago. even before the celestial lady got here, the Redspring Peak next to my village had a demon called the Mountain Lord.
Dongsheng: When he got angry, the earth would split open and springs go all dry. The village gave him tribute every year to appease him, work in mines for him, and even offered their children as the Mountain Lord's servants.
Dongsheng: The kids that the Mountain Lord took away were turned into man-eating wolf monsters that answered his commands. All the grown men in the villages around the Redspring Peak were all bent on getting rid of the Mountain Lord.
Dongsheng: But he was a demon after all. He was inhumanly strong, taller than several adults, with eyes big as bronze bells that flickered like fire, and really tough skin. Even if everyone attacked him at the same time, people would still get killed by him.
Dongsheng: The villagers suffered for a long time under that demon. And then...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Then what?
Icon Dialogue Arrow This has nothing to do with the celestial lady.
Dongsheng: And then the celestial lady descended to our world and the elders begged her to use her divine magic. Lo and behold the celestial lady! Up she went with her sword when she heard about how the villagers had suffered, and she went into Redspring Peak.
Dongsheng: After a while, we suddenly saw a thunderstorm with terrible winds on Redspring Peak. Then the peak just completely collapsed, so we now call it "Flat-Top Peak."
Dongsheng: The Mountain Lord never came out to make trouble again, and everyone lived happily for a while.
Dongsheng: How is it? Was this story exciting? The celestial lady has done a lot more than this.
Dongsheng: Phew, storytelling is tiring. If you want to listen, I'll tell you more stories about her next time!
(Version 4)
Dongsheng: Sure! I'm young, but I know lots and lots of stories about the celestial lady. Let's see, hmm... I'll tell you this one then.
Dongsheng: There was a wealthy merchant in town. Everyone called him Kind Zhou because he always helped people. But fate was mean to him. His son was born a dummy and had difficulties doing everything.
Dongsheng: Kind Zhou asked everywhere for help. but no one could cure his son. Then he heard about what the celestial lady could do, and he made his way to our village.
Dongsheng: She didn't want to help him at first, but she listened to everyone who put in a word for Kind Zhou about how he helps everyone, so she had mercy on him in the end.
Dongsheng: People say she flew on a cloud and returned to where the egg fell, made a medicine, gave it to the kind man, and told him to take it on time.
Dongsheng: That medicine was a miracle. After Kind Zhou's son took it, he suddenly said the word "Father." And when the son grew up, he even passed his exams with flying colors and became an official.
Dongsheng: Not just that, people say that Kind Zhou's chickens and dog stole the pellet, and became divine beasts that could talk. They even lived for many many years!
Dongsheng: My parents always taught me to do lots of good deeds like Kind Zhou. That way, Veggie and I could become celestials too! Oh, I wonder how Veggie's doing... Veggie's my dog!
Dongsheng: Heehee, aren't the celestial lady's stories so amazingly? Phew, storytelling is hard work. If you want more, I'll tell you other stories about her next time!
Icon Dialogue Talk How did you get to Xianzhou?
Dongsheng: Xianzhou? You mean the Celestial Hall?
Dongsheng: I was cutting wood in the mountains one day when I saw a giant ship. Not the type that floats on water, but... but one that floats in air like a feather. It floated towards the temple we built for the celestial lady.
Dongsheng: I thought it must be other celestials here to take her back! So I ran and ran, and saw that the ship had landed, and there was a hole at the bottom.
Dongsheng: It's weird — (Mister/Miss), how can a ship still sail with a hole in it? Anyway, I climbed in and fell asleep. The next thing I knew, I was here at the Celestial Hall!
Icon Dialogue Arrow How could you even have fallen asleep?
Dongsheng: I was tired from all that running.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Your life is truly intertwined with the celestials...
Dongsheng: Heehee, isn't that right? My Ma even said that fortune favors me because I have a giant forehead!
Dongsheng: And then, some celestial soldiers in armor discovered me. They gave me a poke with some needle, and I could suddenly understand celestial speech.
Dongsheng: They asked me a few questions, and then dressed me in new clothes. Heehee, these clothes have no holes or patches on them. So pretty...
Icon Dialogue Talk How do you take care of yourself here?
Dongsheng: I'm young, but I've lived through plenty of droughts and floods! I'm so awesome that I can go for three straight days without food!
Dongsheng: But thanks to the kind celestials in this Celestial Hall, I have food and a place to live. That storyteller mister at Sleepless Earl gives me money for listening to my stories. He's so good!
Dongsheng: Don't worry, (Mister/Miss). I heard that one day in heaven is a year on land. Time is running out. I'll go home once I find the celestial lady and get celestial medicine from her.
Icon Dialogue Exit I have nothing else to ask.
Dongsheng: Bye-bye! I need to keep searching for the celestial lady. (Mister/Miss), your dreams will certainly come true as well in Xianzhou!
Icon Dialogue Exit I have nothing else to ask.
Dongsheng: I have nothing else to ask.
