A Cornerstone[Note 1] is a sacred piece of Qlipoth's body empowered by Diamond, Head of the Strategic Investment Department and Emanator of Preservation, for use by the Ten Stonehearts.[1]
Description[]
Each member of the Ten Stonehearts possesses a unique Cornerstone, and it is said that the Ten Stonehearts must cut their Cornerstone with their own will in order to allow its unique brilliance to radiate.[1] After receiving a Cornerstone, each member is given a name corresponding to their Cornerstone, and they are generally called by this name rather than their actual name.[2] The Ten Stonehearts regard their Cornerstones to be more precious than their own lives.[3]
The abilities of the Ten Stonehearts' Cornerstones are all different. The aventurine stone[Note 2] transformed Aventurine into a stronger form, allowing him to levitate and summon giant poker chips from the sky.[4] The jade stone allowed Jade to see all desires that flowed through dreams when it was sent into Penacony.[5] Compared to Aventurine, the topaz stone's ability is not as "visual," though Topaz tells the Trailblazer she would have used her Cornerstone against the Astral Express Crew if Bronya had not intervened in time.[6]
So far, both of the Stonehearts that have been shown activating their Cornerstones have first recited proclamations with similar formats, ending with "All for the Amber Lord."[4] However, it is currently unconfirmed whether this is a requirement for a Cornerstone's activation.
Cornerstones exhume a great deal of power, even when damaged or shattered — after Aventurine was sent into the Primordial Dreamscape by Acheron, an Emanator of Nihility,[4] the remnants of his damaged Cornerstone were able to protect him from being contaminated by the dreamscape's Nihility.[7] Diamond is capable of repairing damaged Cornerstones.[8]
Aventurine refers to his Cornerstone as "The Architects' flawed stone", implying that they may be the Cornerstones' original creators or otherwise related to them.[4]

Notes[]
- ↑ Topaz and Numby's character introduction in the English localization refers to this as a "core stone," despite later texts referencing similar objects as "Cornerstones." The original Chinese text more consistently refers to these objects as "基石" (Cornerstones) in Topaz and Numby's character introduction, as well as later media.
- ↑ Instances left lowercase, as seen in Jade's Character Story: Part IV
