Dialogue[]
- (Investigate tombstone with one lantern on the left side, southwest of Suppression Tower, Foxsomn Tomb)
- Investigate
- "My neverending childhood is buried here, Xiaofeng." Not all Xianzhou people get to live happily ever after. You pore over a few lines of the tombstone, which seems to recount the tragic demise of a young Xianzhou child.
- Beside the tombstone are several popular storybooks and lunchboxes. The tombstone doesn't really care whether the occupant really has had a neverending childhood, but this beloved "Xiaofeng" certainly will.
- (Investigate tombstones to the right)
- Investigate
- "Xiaofeng the Second, Fifth, and Thirteenth all enjoyed the purity of not being subjugated by knowledge." You are left speechless at how the names, enough for a huge family. fill up this plain and ordinary tombstone.
- You are keenly aware that this "Xiaofeng" name sounds familiar to you. Maybe this is a certain family's ancestral burial place? But you're curious — Why is this whole family so obsessed with this name "Xiaofeng"?
- While you're pondering and trying to explore the hidden secrets of a Xianzhou dynasty, a crisp child's voice interrupts your line of thinking.
- A young kid pops up from out of nowhere to pat you on the shoulder — no, he can't reach, so he pokes you in the belly with his soft, little hand.
- Spinning around, you see him. Maybe you've been standing in one place for too long, because you feel a little dizzy. Everything in sight suddenly seems a little strange, and you try to pull yourself together. Now you can clearly see who is standing before you.
- Passerby Vidyadhara Child: You're stepping on something of mine. Could you please kindly remove your foot?
- "Something of yours"?
- Passerby Vidyadhara Child: Yes, everything here is something of mine. You got a problem with that?
- Er, where did you just pop out from?
- Passerby Vidyadhara Child: This has always been my "secret lair." I went out to grab something, came back, and found you just standing there looking gormless.
- Passerby Vidyadhara Child: Why are you staring at these tombstones? Do you know Xiaofeng, too?
- I'm just a passerby taking a look.
- I don't know Xiaofeng.
- Passerby Vidyadhara Child: Then why are you staring at my tombstone? We don't know each other but here you are stepping all over my offerings. It's so rude.
- This is YOUR tombstone!?
- Xiaofeng: Yep. Written out there all loud and clear. I'm Xiaofeng.
- Am I speaking with the dead?
- Xiaofeng: ...I think your brain circuitry is messed up.
- Xiaofeng: What's so weird about it? All of this is my cenotaph. We Vidyadhara, we get our own hatching rebirth. Didn't you read the tombstone? I even wrote out every single rebirth super clearly.
- Xiaofeng: Fine, excuse me then. Don't step on my tomb. I'd like to move some stuff into a new grave.
- Xiaofeng: Let me think. Another three boxes of books still. I have no idea why I loved reading so much in my previous life... Ah, darn it. I forgot to bring those books again...
- You pivot your body to make way for the kid, and check over the inscription on the tombstone and the "offerings" on the ground all over again.
- You discover that the "offerings" not only include popular storybooks, but also poorly-graded exam papers covered in red-letter corrections. You start to wonder whether this is all just some kid's elaborate prank...
- But when you spin around to try asking the weird kid more questions, you discover that he's vanished. Now that you think about it, you realize you have absolutely no idea exactly when it was he left.
- Or maybe you've never even heard any footsteps of his at all. Thinking this causes a bead of cold sweat to roll down your forehead. Lingering here is not a good idea. You decide to leave.
