The Claretwheel Temple is a pacifistic religious faction composed of individuals of numerous species, primarily borisin.

Description[]

"Humankind flounders in the ocean of life and death, as wickedness and evil deeds lead to the abyss of flames. All suffering is created solely by the mind, and obsession and desire make earthen idols thus divine."

— Ordained monk, Matanga

During the long and drawn-out Denizens of Abundance Wars, a group of borisin grew weary of the endless conquest and slaughter. They believed that the universe's suffering was born of an imbalance between Abundance and The Hunt. Ever since Yaoshi ascended to divinity, the influence of Abundance expanded by the day, causing the balance of life's cycle to be shaken. They believe that the birth of the Hunt is an inevitable necessity driven forth by this imbalance. So, these borisin abandoned their faith and their war packs to establish the Claretwheel Temple.

Claretwheel Temple is a temple complex floating in the universe. They would appear during any war related to the Denizens of the Abundance, collecting the remains of the deceased and delivering their souls to the eternal beyond. Some war orphans taken away by them would go on to become Claretwheel Temple monks and devote themselves to continuing this cause.

The monks of Claretwheel Temple also regard HooH the Equilibrium as a great forerunner instead of a god who guides the people of this world. The monks always maintain some distance from the concept of Aeons in their teachings — As the Claretwheel Temple's faith was born from the cracks between Abundance and The Hunt, the Temple believes that Aeons, as beings that exercise the extremes of a singular concept, will surely push the universe into the abyss of imbalance.

After three Amber Eras of peaceful activity, the Claretwheel Temple monks have included enlightened practitioners of many different races, although the borisin still constituted the absolute majority. It did not matter if one were a citizen of Xianzhou, a Wingweaver, a Houyhnhnm, or an Intellitron — so long as one wishes to bring this ceaseless cycle of war and bloodshed to an end, one could become an ordained monk of Claretwheel Temple.

The monks of Claretwheel Temple are required to wear a Claretwheel Ring, as a symbol of their vow to abide by the five major precepts: To do no harm, no deception, no greed, no anger, and no indulgence. However, the esteemed monks who had mastered these teachings no longer wear such rings — their rings are already engraved into their hearts.

Overview[]

The Claretwheel Temple was formed following the collapse of the Borisin Empire. Similarly to The Unshackled, the Claretwheel Temple is a non-aggressive faction that rejects harming living beings, turning their beliefs into a religious concept as a path of salvation. They have resurrected the traditional Verdantia fable of "Wolf God and Deer God" and believe that the heart of the present chaos lies in the power imbalance between the Abundance and The Hunt.

According to a recent report by the Verdantia Fleet's scouts, the temple has close to 10,000 disciples, most of whom are borisin, though there are a few members from the other Denizens of Abundance. They are identified with some sort of forged metallic band around a certain part of their body, which symbolizes their advocacy to avoid killing.

While the Xianzhou Alliance is skeptical about the idea of nonviolent borisin, because the members of the Temple genuinely adhere to their mantra, they are tolerated by the Alliance's Military Affairs Office. Anyone that deliberately attacks one of these disciples will be charged with intentional harming of civilians.[1] At present, the only Xianzhou ship that has established diplomatic relations with Claretwheel Temple is the Luofu after the monk Samatha pleaded in the Luminary Wardance Ceremony in Event Adventure Mission Ordination.[2]

A common saying in the Claretwheel Temple is "May the claret wheel hang overhead, illuminating mortal hearts."[3]

Five Claretwheel Commandments[]

The Claretwheel Temple also bears five commandments, recited in hopes of severing one's ties to evil. It is a method of self-discipline. A commandment mantra is said before this, with the mantra going as such:

I am born of the void, born in servitude to all beings, thus I shall neither harm nor transgress.
I quell myself from strife, witnessing the poison of karmic consequences, thus I shall neither covet nor hate.
I know the truth of suffering, of death, and of life, thus I shall not be indulgent in my wait for Nirvana.

After reciting the mantra, the members are given a Claretwheel Ring to symbolize their vow to abide by the commandments, with the commandments being "to not evoke harm, transgression, greed, hate, and indulgence".[3]

Golden Bodhisattvas[]

13,000 "golden bodhisattvas" are enshrined in the Nirvana Hall of Claretwheel Temple. According to investigations from the Intelligentsia Guild, these "golden bodhisattvas" are still technically "alive" from a biological point of view. It is unknown whether these "golden bodhisattvas" will awaken when certain conditions are met, and whether they will be "esteemed high monks" or "Abominations of Abundance" when they awaken.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The ordained names of the Claretwheel Temple monks are in Sanskrit.
  • The Claretwheel Ring, as seen in Event Adventure Mission Ordination, is inscribed with the Xianzhou Script "OMNBMH", which presumably translates to 唵嘛呢叭咪吽 Ōngmānībēimēihōng, the Chinese transcription of the Sanskrit mantra Om mani padme hum (Sanskrit: ॐ मणिपद्मे हूँ).
