The Chryseus Leo was a great lion that terrorized the city of Tretos. Its head can be seen mounted on the wall in "Bloodbathed Battlefront" Castrum Kremnos southeast of the Chisel Zone Space Anchor, and in "Strife Ruins" Castrum Kremnos south of the Calyx (Crimson): Bud of Remembrance.
Profile[]
The Chryseus Leo was said to be an extraordinary lion as massive as a city gate. Unlike other lions with dull coats, its fur gleamed like golden flame, and it shone under the sun like a colossus gilded in gold.[1]
History[]
The Chryseus Leo lived on the outskirts of Tretos during the Era Bellica. The city sent all its meat to appease the lion's hunger, lest it go hungry and devour their inhabitants. When Gorgo's tribe passed through the city and learned of the situation, Gorgo led a hunting party to kill it. However, he was inspired by the lion's might and decided to fight the lion alone, barehanded. With a few swift blows, Gorgo shattered several of its joints and killed it. It is said that for over a century after the lion's death, its dying roar continued to reverberate across the outskirts of Tretos.[1]
Gorgo saved the Chryseus Leo's head as a trophy, which remained remarkably intact over the years, as if even Thanatos refused to claim it. When Nikador passed by the tribe's fortress, Gorgo retrieved the lion's head from the storeroom and used it as a resonator to grab Nikador's attention with his shout. He then flung it with such force that it embedded itself into the fortress wall.[1]
The lion's head remains capable of speech even countless years after its death. According to Mydei, Chryseus Leo was the top advisor in Castrum Kremnos, whose wise counsel helped the Kremnoans win many battles and thwart numerous schemes. When Mydei, Phainon, and the Trailblazer went to Castrum Kremnos in Amphoreus's Evernight, Chryseus Leo spoke to Mydei, telling him about Nikador's scheme to attack Okhema and urging him to put an end to the Titan. It then fell silent despite Mydei's commands to speak more.[2] Later, when Castorice and the Trailblazer went back in time to Dawn, it spoke to Gnaeus and beseeched him to become the city's champion.[3]
