Cheap Room is a subarea in Boulder Town in Jarilo-VI's Underworld.
Location[]
Travel Log[]
For two tin cans, you can stay at Goethe Grand Hotel for one night, as long as you can tolerate its hostel-like setup of rooms filled with multiple beds.
However, this is not that unbearable in the Underworld. In every tax period, you may find a lot of miners getting together here.
Besides, thanks to Chef Gertie's enthusiasm towards creating new recipes, more clients come here for a good meal rather than a sound sleep. Goethe Grand Hotel has thus still become quite the landmark in the Underworld.
By chance, the Overworld also has an establishment called the Goethe Hotel, but the relationship between the two is yet unknown.
Travel Encounters[]
The Underground's Goethe Grand Hotel is a reflection of the magnificent Goethe Hotel of the Overworld, but is quite the opposite: cramped, shabby, and small. But the owner and chef of the Goethe Grand Hotel, Gertie, doesn't see it that way. She insists the Goethe Grand Hotel of the underground was the original, and the one above is just a branch that was opened later.
The Goethe Grand Hotel was filled with people who had fled to the area from other settlements, some where miners and some merchants. They came from areas swallowed by the Fragmentum, and Gertie took them in out of kindness. The rooms may not be the cleanest, but the people displaced finally had a place to rest and recuperate, even if just for a short while.
Readables[]
The following readables can be found in the hotel room:
Investigations[]
The player can interact with the table in the Cheap Room and fill out a service rating card. Speaking to Gertie afterwards will reward the player Praise of High Morals ×1, the Achievement Natural Immunity, and the recipe for Yucky Fried Rice.[verification needed]
- Investigate
- Paper, pens, and a pot of black ink are laid out on a plain wooden table.
- You lean down slightly, trying to make out the messy handwriting on the paper...
- Technology in the Underworld might be outdated, but printing as a technique remains as prevalent as ever. Perhaps this establishment opted to handwrite its notes to give customers a warm feeling of being valued.
- ...But this kind thought only manages to make reading more difficult for you. As you scan over these polite and pointless words, your eyes start to hurt... Finally, you find the most important part at the bottom of the page.
- "...Gertie, the owner, warmly invites you to rate our services."
- Ah, a grading session. Your favorite.
- You vaguely remember having this experience before, with you sitting in the back seat of a hover-taxi, flying from one place in the city to another.
- The pilot of the hover-taxi doesn't chat with you for the whole ride, not offering even the most cursory of greetings. But as you open the door to climb out, he suddenly says —
- "Please give me a 5-star review."
- No, you won't. You are the embodiment of impartiality. You would never take pity on a test with a score of 49 and change it to a 50 for a pass. You strongly believe that good reviews are earned, not handed out.
- You look around this cheap room. You hear the walls wailing and see the cupboard trembling... Now, you're the most impartial critic in the whole of the galaxy.
- Gertie's Writing: "Dear guest, please rate how comfortable the bed is in your hotel room."
- Unsatisfactory
- Bed: Unsatisfactory.
- Your conscience won't hurt as long as you leave a truthful rating.
- Neutral
- Bed: Average.
- It's more than just *average*. It could even be used to define the concept of *average*.
- Very satisfied
- Bed: Very good.
- If you had to choose between this and the small beds in the Express's Passenger Car, you wouldn't hesitate for a second.
- Gertie's Writing: "Dear guest, please rate the tea provided in your hotel room."
- Unsatisfactory
- Tea: Unsatisfactory.
- Too cold, too bland, and stinks of musty mold. Utterly terrible.
- Neutral
- Tea: Average.
- You wouldn't turn away such a pot of tea if you were engrossed in reading or gaming.
- Very satisfied
- Tea: Very good.
- The best tea ever! If possible, you'd love to bring Dan Heng here to sample this tea, solely because you are convinced that he is someone who knows a lot about tea.
- Gertie's Writing: "Dear guest, please rate the lighting and view from your hotel room."
- Unsatisfied
- Lighting and view: Unsatisfactory.
- Light? What light? I'm afraid guests getting out of bed in this room would scarcely be able to see their own toes.
- As for the view... You can only default to the lowest rating possible for something that doesn't exist at all.
- Neutral
- Lighting and view: Average.
- The lighting in the room is not too shabby. At the very least, you're able to read what's written on this paper clearly.
- As for the view... You knew the people who designed and built this hotel did their best. You could hardly ask for more.
- Very satisfied.
- Lighting and view: Very good.
- The lighting in the room is exactly how you like it: Not too bright, not too dark. Very comfortable.
- As for the view — as a well-known connoisseur of retro architecture, you find the Boulder Town street view to be very appealing.
- Gertie's Writing: "Thank you for evaluating the service here at the Goethe Hotel. You may leave a comment in the space below. We will take your feedback seriously and try out best to improve our services."
- A comment... Coming up with original content is always a headache. It's better to make it a multiple choice question.
- I'm very happy with the excellent service. Thank you.
- It was an average experience. I probably won't come back.
- May I suggest you buy some memory foam pillows and velvet quilts?
- Write nothing.
- You successfully passed the comment component of the test. There's only one blank space left on this piece of paper.
- Gertie's Writing: "If possible, please leave your name, so we can notify you when we have discounts."
- Discounts! What a beautiful word. Let's write your esteemed name here then.
- (Trailblazer)
- Your friendly neighborhood Nameless
- Heisenberg
- Your masterpiece is done! You've just completed the single most unbiased service review in the history of the universe — without a hint of any subjective emotion.
- You flip back the feedback card that you've just completed, and discover a thick stack of identical cards. You are faced with several options...
- Finished — Now, go over the whole review again.
- Your comment for the shop: (I'm very happy with the excellent service. Thank you./It was an average experience. I probably won't come back./May I suggest you buy some memory foam pillows and velvet quilts?/Write nothing.)
- Your signature: ((Trailblazer)/Your friendly neighborhood Nameless/Heisenberg)
- Your rating for the bed: (Unsatisfied/Neutral/Very satisfied.)
- Your rating for the tea: (Unsatisfied/Neutral/Very satisfied.)
- Your rating for the lighting/view: (Unsatisfactory/Neutral/Very satisfied.)
- I regret everything... Let's fill out another card.
- You rip the card to shreds.
- No, it's not *unbiased* enough. Far from it. You must fill out another card.
- (Restart dialogue choices for rating your experience)
- You're done.
- You put away the completed service evaluation card.
- Perhaps you should give it straight to Gertie — To demonstrate your status as a valued guest.
Trivia[]
- Goethe Grand Hotel shares its name with Goth Grand Hotel, a location in HoYoverse's other title Genshin Impact; the Chinese, Japanese, and Russian versions use "Goethe."[1]
- When the player signs their name on the service rating card, three choices appear.
- The choice "Your friendly neighborhood Nameless" is a reference to Spider-Man.
- The choice "Heisenberg" is a reference to Breaking Bad; the show's protagonist, Walter White, uses the name as an alias.
