Chartonus is an NPC on Amphoreus, located in "Eternal Holy City" Okhema.
Profile[]
In the past, Chartonus and his people were enslaved by the people of Castrum Kremnos, and Chartonus quickly became renowned for his blacksmithing skills. At some point, a Kremnos high elder commissioned Chartonus to create a Sword Vessel that could seal divinity, which Chartonus agreed to if he was given the finest stones in Kremnos and Nikador's golden ichor. In return for creating the vessel, Chartonus requested his and his peoples' freedom, no longer wanting to being Kremnos servants or fighters, which the elder presumably agreed to.
When Nikador and the other Titans began a rampage across Amphoreus due to a "black tide," Chartonus fled to Okhema, where he would create all of the Chrysos Heirs' weaponry.
After obtaining the path of Remembrance in order to find Nikador's weakness, the Trailblazer and Castorice would return to Okhema to find memory fragments to enter the past version of Castrum Kremnos, paying a visit to Chartonus. They told him of their task, and asked him if he had created any weapons for Nikador. Having created plenty of weapons in his lifetime, Chartonus could not remember, but Mem managed to recover his memories when he created the divine Sword Vessel and converted it into memory fragment.[1]
Sometime after Nikador's defeat, Chartonus went fishing in the Sea of Souls and found Gorgo's signet ring, giving it to Mydei. Mydei promised to return the favor to him, but Chartonus had considered it paid when he was saved. Sensing that the young prince had questions, Mydei told him that the fate he denied had finally caught up to him and was unsure of what to do. Chartonus listened and told Mydei that he was a different type of Kremnoan.[2]
Chartonus was later making a new weapon for Phainon when Aglaea spoke to him as a golden nymph. He immediately realized what was going on and she asked him about their pact. Chartonus advised her that the vessel was not worthy for her, but she insisted on it. Aglaea asked him to use the Soul-Forging technology to condense her divinity into an ornament, which would help the others on their mission. Chartonus complied with the request, stating that she was selfless to the end. Upon learning that Phainon had returned to Marmoreal Palace, Chartonus rushed there and gave Phainon his new sword — based off the Flame Reaver's, which he called "Dawnmaker", along with the divine ornament that Aglaea had commissioned him.[3]
After the Dawn Device shut down following Cipher's death, the Flame Reaver led the black tide into Okhema. As Phainon and the Trailblazer tried to reach the Vortex of Genesis, they ran into Chartonus on the way, who was fatigued. Chartonus told him that the guards were evacuating the people and that Trinnon was waiting for them at the Vortex of Genesis. As more black tide creatures pursued them, Chartonus remained behind to hold them off despite his lack of fighting experience, knowing the situation was dire and wanting to leave some glory in the face of his impending death.[4]
Appearance[]
Chartonus has a robust, muscular physique, with slate-blue skin. His head is adorned with a knight-style helmet featuring vertical slits and metallic gold accents. A single gold shoulder guard rests on his right side, connected by a dark brown leather strap that crosses his exposed chest. His arms are clad in brown metallic gauntlets adorned with ornate patterns, and his hands are left uncovered.
He wears a deep blue, knee-length cloth adorned with golden fleur-de-lis patterns, which is secured by a wide brown leather belt featuring a large metallic emblem at its center. His legs are protected by ornate greaves with golden detailing that echoes the design of his gauntlets and shoulder guard. These greaves are paired with sturdy black footwear.

Dialogue[]
- (First interaction)
- *ding* *ding* *ding* This tall blacksmith is forging iron.
- In your eyes, his weapon forgoing process is unsophisticated, unpretentious. Apart from exhibiting more strength and producing louder clanging, he doesn't seem too different from the most ordinary blacksmiths in Amphoreus.
- But... *ding* *ding* *ding*
- You notice a few pieces of quenched iron billets in his hands, glowing with an apparently unusual sheen.
Try interrupting him.
- Chartonus: ...
- *ding* *ding* *ding* ...Nope, the blacksmith ignores you completely.
Wait for him to finish.
- Good thing this burly smith is almost done. The billet sizzles when doused in water, and Chartonus finally turns around to meet you.
- Chartonus: ...Long have you waited, warrior of the outlands.
It's all right. I was just admiring your craft.
You knew I was waiting for you!
- Chartonus: Sorry, distracted I cannot be, while the smithing goes on.
- Chartonus: The earnest Titan, Georios. Its creations, the mountain dwellers are. Meticulous... a lineage unbroken.
That iron billet feels very special...
- Chartonus: Billet, ordinary it was. The tempering process, blessed by Titans it was.
What kind of Titan is Georios?
- Chartonus: The Pillar of Stone, Georios, the Earth Titan, God of the Mountains.
- Chartonus: Steady and diligent, Georios likes. Forge, grain, and strength, all shall gain.
- Chartonus: Hammer strikes, shape not alone. Earth's blessing, grasp strength, within seal it is.
So it's enchanted with magic!
- Chartonus: Magic... what is it? Craft, or raw material, is it?
No wonder Dan Heng's spear was cut in half.
- Chartonus: Very special, his weapon is, that Lord Dan Heng.
- Chartonus: Craftsmanship like this, seen before, I have not. No Titan's blessing it has, yet sharp and strong it is.
You crafted all the Chrysos Heirs' weapons?
- Chartonus: The Chrysos Heirs, trust me, they do.
- Chartonus: ...
- Chartonus: Continue my work, I shall, if nothing else there is, warrior of the outlands.
- (Continue on to dialogue options below)
- (Subsequent interactions)
- *ding* *ding* *ding* The Grand Craftsman is busy forging.
- Seeing your presence, the Grand Craftsman puts down his hammer.
- Chartonus: Warrior of the outlands, what need you have?
I'd like to buy an amazing weapon.
- Chartonus: ...Thank you. Chartonus' proud creations, you may look at as you please.
- (Opens shop)
I want to have a chat with you.
- Chartonus: Chat, I do not well. Worry, you should not.
How do I choose a good weapon in Amphoreus?
- Chartonus: Sharp and strong, a good weapon is... Like a good rock, the red earth is.
- Chartonus: Majestic and cold, a better weapon is... Like a throne, the chariot is.
What's the difference?
- Chartonus: Forge weapons, Georios does. Temper weapons, Nikador shall.
- Chartonus: Explain well, I cannot. "Have become used to it," said once Phainon.
- Chartonus: "Drenched in too much blood," said too Mydei.
How well do you know the Chrysos Heirs?
- Chartonus: Good weapons, I craft for Chrysos Heirs. From weapons, my knowledge begins.
Mydei?
- Chartonus: His weapon, many times, Mydei has broken. A hum, I hear, when fixing the surviving weapons.
- Chartonus: Cross the battlefield, through seas of blood, one shall. Only then, silent war cries, find you will.
- Chartonus: Mostly like that, Kremnoan weapons are. Different, Mydei's is.
- Chartonus: Divinity, majesty, compassion, there are. Rusted blood, many strange scents, mixed they are.
- Chartonus: ...Misperception, perhaps it is.
Phainon?
- Chartonus: Lacks soul, Phainon's weapon does. Understand, I do not, why for such a resolute warrior, it is so.
- Chartonus: Perhaps the weapon, not fitting it is. Perhaps hesitation there is, with destiny.
Aglaea?
- Chartonus: Need, Aglaea does not. Like her style, sharp and merciless, gold thread is.
Tribbie?
- Chartonus: Weapons, little girls have not. But often, see them I do.
- Chartonus: Sometimes like thunder, the sound of hammering is. Startled, they are, when nearby by chance.
- Chartonus: Little toys, they cannot make. Seek my help, they occasionally do.
- Chartonus: Small rocket launchers, metal wings, iron horses... Craft them, I can. Adorable, they are.
Got it, no more questions from me.
The Mountain Dwellers sure have a lot of stories.
- Chartonus: Too long, too long, the stories of the Mountain Dweller are. Busy, my hands are. Time to tell, I have not. Apologies, I offer.
Just for a bit!
- Chartonus: Long history, Mountain Dwellers have. Their bodies, Georios shaped.
- Chartonus: Strong, Earth Titan's children are. For fairness, wisdom, Cerces gives not.
- Chartonus: Slaves, Mountain Dwellers once were. Taken, they were, to be blacksmiths, guards, miners, and keepers.
- Chartonus: Now Mountain Dwellers in Okhema, my people are. Used by Kremnoans, they once were.
- Chartonus: Love peace, Mountain Dwellers do. Yet, safe from war, hiding in mountains is not.
- Chartonus: With other civilizations, we exchange. Fortunate or unfortunate, think deeply we do not. Willing to ponder, we are not.
- Chartonus: Slow, Mountain Dwellers run. Curled up, we did when leaving the mountains, like rolling stones.
- Chartonus: Fear us, common folk did. But kind, everyone was. Accepted, we slowly were. "Gentle giants,", they called us.
- Chartonus: Think little, work plenty, Mountain Dwellers do. Renowned for years, our forging skills and masonry have been.
- Chartonus: Kingdoms, we have not. In cities, we live. Content with stability, we are.
- Chartonus: Ores and soil, Mountain Dwellers like. Explosives and cold water, Mountain Dwellers hate.
- Chartonus: The city of Phagousa's faith, we rarely visit. Okhema, our favorite, it is so far.
Let's leave it there for now.
- Chartonus: Farewell, warrior. Bless you, the earth does.
Let's leave it there for now.
- Chartonus: Farewell, warrior. Bless you, the earth does.
