Caiyi was a Foxian ace gunner and the flight partner of Yukong. She was killed during the Third Abundance War.[2]
Profile[]
Caiyi and Yukong had been friends since childhood. They were also rivals and flew starskiffs everywhere illegally. Eventually they were caught by the Cloud Knights and brought before Jing Yuan, who recruited them to become pilots of the Sky-Faring Commission.[2]
In combat, Caiyi was efficient, decisive, and unfeeling when necessary. She became jaded after years of fighting and would always act strong no matter what terrible things befell her. At some point, Caiyi met her fellow pilot Guangyuan, and the two fell in love and got married. They often manned the same starskiff and their combined prowess was the envy of many. During the Third Abundance War, Caiyi and Guangyuan conceived a child, but Guangyuan was killed in battle before the birth of their child. After Guangyuan's death, Caiyi would rarely team up with anyone except for Yukong.[2]
At some point, Caiyi went on maternity leave and gave birth to Qingni, whom she named per Yukong's suggestion. She returned to the front lines after a few months. In the last crucial battle, the Xianzhou forces engaged the main borisin fleet and Caiyi was fatally injured. Her last words to Yukong were to not let Qingni become a fighter pilot.[2]
Following Caiyi's death, Yukong adopted Qingni and raised her as her own daughter. Yukong was deeply affected by the events of the war and resigned from being a pilot. She took up office work in the Sky-Faring Commission and eventually its Helm Master. As per Caiyi's last wishes, Yukong did her best to dissuade Qingni from becoming a fighter pilot, though she eventually let go of her past fears and ceded to her daughter's wishes.[2]
During the events of A Foxian Tale of the Haunted, a heliobus took on the form of Caiyi and had a short talk with Yukong, before being exorcized.[3]
