Dialogue[]
- (First interaction)
- Amo: ...
- What are you looking at?
- Amo: Things that were, things that are, and things that are yet to happen.
- What's so special about the trash can?
- Amo: Nothing. It is plain and lacks character, just like me.
- Amo: Ah, I am good for nothing. I am destined to end up in a trash can.
- Don't be so harsh on yourself.
- Amo: You misunderstood me. I am pondering about life, value, and eternity.
- You're quite a poet.
- Amo: Thank you. That was indeed my occupation.
- Amo: I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Amo. I write things for a living. Sorry for blocking your way... Hm? Can I help you with anything?
- (Obtain Tale of the Winterlands (Far From Home (I)) and Recipe: Punitive Food)
- (Continue onto dialogue options below)
- (Subsequent interactions)
- Amo: I always feel this strange calm when I stare at the trash can, as if finally returning to where I belong... Ah, the breeze and the smell...
- Amo: Oh, don't mind me. I was completely lost in that sense of belonging. I remember you, friend. What brings you here?
- So you are a writer?
- Amo: Ah, I'm afraid I don't deserve the title. I produce less than mediocre writings in great quantity for others. A ghostwriter as they say. I doubt if I'm qualified to write at all, even for the rubbish I produce.
- Let's talk about your works...
- What do you write then?
- What kind of rubbish have you produced?
- Amo: I wrote some horror novels, the quality of which can be described with the name of the genre according to some critics. Some say those novels should never have been written in the first place. For the disaster fiction I did, same critiques also apply.
- Tell me about your ghostwriting.
- Amo: Have you heard of Tale of the Winterlands, the fiction that was recently banned? The publisher was actually quite happy with the quality and wanted the author to make some edits on the original so that they can publish it again.
- Amo: But they did not expect the author to simply vanish into thin air! The editors had to contact me instead, asking if I can help with the project.
- Amo: "Ha! Tale of the Winterlands is just some cheap folklore compiled together. I can give you one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand words with ease. Piece of carrot cake to me." — That was my response when I took the job. You know how hard it is to finally get something going. I was just trying to impress them but ended up getting way ahead of myself.
- Amo: One of the editors had sent me a copy to let me get the feel of it. It wasn't until I started reading that I realized the book was going to be a classic. I had to admit it, I couldn't even remotely reproduce the author's creativity and style.
- Amo: The editor has made several attempts to contact me since then, but I managed to avoid her each time because I just couldn't deliver.
- How would you rate Tale of the Winterlands now?
- Amo: A Masterpiece of a true genius. Maybe the language still has room for polishing, but the wild passion waved into the plot is other-worldly. For seven hundred years the people of Belobog have been trapped in the snow, their imagination taken away. This book reignited people's desire to look beyond these snow-covered lands...
- Amo: Maybe that's why the Architects insist on banning it... I heart that within a month of the book's publication, the number of people that ventured out into the snow and went missing had gone up exponentially.
- What's your plan for the future?
- Amo: To avoid the editors for the time being.
- Amo: And contemplate on what to do for a living if I'm blocklisted... *sigh*
- Don't put so much pressure on yourself.
- Amo: Sorry, I've had a difficult time lately...
- Don't give up just yet. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
- Amo: Hehe, easier said than done.
- Stop comparing yourself to others. Go with your instincts!
- Amo: Hah! I'll become a laughing stock in the history of literature if I do that. "Who's this Amo? How dare he write this rubbish and claim to be writing Tale of the Winterlands?"
- No need to stick to one career path. How about doing something else?
- Amo: Haha, I did consider doing that, but... writing is my true passion. My writing may be bad, but I feel happy when holding a pen in my hand...
- That's all for my questions.
- Thank you for your time.
- (Dialogue ends)
- (Included in subsequent interactions, upon completing Trailblaze Mission No Time for Me, My Friend)
- Are you still writing books?
- Amo: Technically, yes. But... the novels I write aren't exactly highbrow. They're all trash literature.
- Are you still writing the Tale of the Winterlands?
- Amo: Eh... Not exactly. The story I'm writing is about Dalmir and Artem as they go on an adventure in the Lava Kingdom. It's a little like the fanfictions of the Tales series that the readers produce, but the quality is even worse...
- Amo: At the end of the book I'm working on now, they don't go to Satelleden. Artem chooses to help Dalmir search for the secret that lies below his homeland...
- So what's the novel about?
- Amo: I used the characters from the Tale of the Winterlands series, but it's a different story. It's a kind of... spin-off novel that depicts Dalmir and Artem's adventure in the Lava Kingdom.
- Amo: Dalmir takes Artem back with him to his hometown, where he meets some new companions. Artem helps Dalmir uncover the secret behind a myth in his hometown.
- Amo: ...But I'm not sure if the editor is going to accept this kind of manuscript. I will keep writing for now. Even if the content is just average, at least it's my own work... I don't want to be a ghostwriter anymore.
